I just acquired redwing boots similar to the ones pictured below. I now need a pair of jeans to fit over them. They look ridiculous with my apc ns for instance because of the taper. I have a 30 - 31 waist and reckon i need an 8.5" leg opening ? Must be straight leg though as i'm not a fan of bootcut. So far i've come up with nudie ssds but ruled them out due to the stitching. Also maybe studio Dartisan sd-103 ,would i need to size up on these ? Any other suggestions please let me know

Get a pair of honest-to-goodness dungarees. Work-style jeans for work boots. Yeah?

I would look at LVC first. 1947 cut or 1955.
If you want to drop more coin, let's start talking Japanese.

apc hipsters? I know they're low cut, but the leg is perfect for boots.

Thanks for the suggestions so far. Iron Hearts i've considered before but the denim is extremely heavy so breaking them in is going to be tough. DDML i have a pair of 47's and the leg opening is still slightly off to my eyes, plus the rise is slightly too high for me as my slender waist means jeans naturally fall on my hips. 55's just look shapeless and baggy on me. Does anyone have sd-103 ?

I had SDA 103's in size 31 and the hem was only 8"; not a good boot jean really. I'd go for 5ep LDB. A size 30 will be 8.5" at the hem.

I rock Dior's with boots and it looks great. Also my Flatheads, Prada's, Dolce's whatever. But I really like the look of skinny jeans with boots.

Sure, skinny jeans can look good with Carp Diems and the like, but not with the Red Wings the OP posted.

The slim leg openings of small-waist jeans make footwear quite tricky. In my opinion, you'll need a truly bootcut jean to make those RWs work in your waist size -- or something really full-cut all around, which will likely look sloppy on a thin guy. If the 5EP LDB is actually 8.5" at the hem in a size 30, then that may work for you, though I seem to remember its hem as slightly smaller, and I've heard that you have to size down significantly with this cut. Regardless of what jeans you get, I doubt that RWs will ever look as good on a thin guy as on someone of stockier build (though I'm not a huge fan of them on anyone). As a skinny guy myself, I've decided that most boots just don't work for me with non-baggy jeans, especially chelsea boots, which cause the front of the jean to rest awkwardly halfway down the "curve" of the boot as it ascends my very high instep. The only boot I've been happy with is the Frye Brando lace-up paired with my Iron Heart 634S (~8.2" hem in my size 30). Iron Heart, by the way, as Chrono notes, makes very soft and comfortable jeans, despite their weight.

I own two pairs in size 30 and both measure 8.5 on the nose. You're probably thinking of the Straight Down, which would measure more like 8". I have to say, my LDB's are my most vesatile jeans in that they can be worn with different profile boots, shoes, sneakers, whatever. They may not look spectacular with some footwear, but it will never be a really bad match either.

Kicking Mule 1980s would probably work well. They're pretty much a true straight leg, and my size 29s are around 8 at the hem and look great with my red wing 1909s and Alden Indys.

Yeah, I think a 8.5" hem is ideal for matching with a lot of different shoes and boots. I might consider the LDB to have a jean with a larger hem, but I'd probably need a 27 or 28 (I like the initial waist size of my jeans to be slightly under 30"), which probably are similar at the hem to my IHs

I'll second the APC hipsters................. skinny top block, with a little over 8" hem.......I wear my cowboy boots with them no problem. The rise is super low, sometimes that is a pain but not usually.
