Jacket for cycling that doesn't look like ass

To all the cyclists out there... What has been a reliable, go to cycling jacket?

I'm looking for something warm, windproof, and waterproof. Some functional pockets would be good. I'll mainly be wearing this jacket with t-shirt/casual button downs and jeans/chinos, with sneakers/boots.

I'm looking for something a little more 'civilian' but I don't mind technical either. I've been looking at Arc'Teryx jackets for quite some time now.

Any suggestions from anyone?

If you've got the money, you can't beat Rapha...

But if by any chance, you are a mere mortal, you could try something from Outlier or Swrve. Nau also make breathable, and supposedly ethical stuff, as does relative newcomer, Modrobes.

It is worth getting something cut specifically for cycling rather than a generic shell, and these people all make stuff that looks good too. A few years ago this was difficult, but one of the positive results of the hipster / fixie thing is that there are a lot of smaller companies now making interesting urban cycling gear.

def go rapha if you can. i have a couple of jerseys and a pair of knickers from them and they're all top flight with really well thought out designs. everything looks pretty good too

I find this question personally troublesome. I've never seen a cycling jacket that would look good with "t-shirt/casual button downs and jeans/chinos, with sneakers/boots". If you're going to dress street, then dress street, and wear an appropriate jacket along with it. Not rocket science. I guess I'm just baffled at the idea that the one piece of cycling clothing you want is the jacket.

I wear Brooks' Criterion jacket with jeans and chinos. I don't know if counts as a "serious" cycling jacket, but it's designed for cycling.

it's not too strange. some of us commute on bikes. i don't want to look like a dink walking around after getting off my bike so i want a jacket that works on and off. that said, i don't reach for my cycling gear when i'm headed out for the afternoon unless I'm going there on my bike. the transfer jacket looks great. likely to be my winter jacket of choice. saying that jacket is "designed for cycling" is like saying mcdonalds is designed for nutrition.

Probably any jacket you'd wear for walking should be OK. I take it you're only cycling to work or something, and NOT participating the Tour de France or other sports cycling?
