Hello SF members!
I have always been a fan of beautiful clothing. My father was a clothing freak when I was growing up
In the 70's & 80's and he would drag me along to his custom tailor and stores in New York on Saturdays, so it's kind of in my blood. It took me quite a few years to develop my own sense of personal style, but once I had a handle on it, I could always put something nice together that was appropriate for the mood I was in, where I was going and the weather outside. Thank you thrift shops!
I started selling on eBay full time back in 2001. About a year ago I decided to take the plunge and open men's consignment store in Metuchen, NJ. I now run my eBay business from that location - a big change from the 15 years I spent working in my basement. I have a lot of knowledge to share about buying and selling online, tailored clothing and personal style, but I also feel that I still have a lot to learn. In my basement there was no dress code. I went through a phase about 12 or 13 years ago where I wound go down to work in a suit and tie, but that only lasted for a couple of weeks. For the most part I was shorts and a t-shirt in the warm weather and jeans and a button-down in cooler weather. Now that I am operating a retail store in a busy downtown, I have to put a lot of thought into my outfit each day. I'm a big fan of RRL, John Varvatos, Rag & Bone type of stuff. Most recently I discovered Grown & Sewn denim khakis, which are now my favorite pants to wear. For tailored clothing I have always loved Oxxford & bespoke Savile Row suits. My favorite contemporary piece is a Billy Reid blue blazer that came from Bergdorf that came to me through the course of my business.
I'm not very familiar with online forums, but I will be spending time looking through this site and will make posts when I have something to say, a question to answer or a question if my own.
