Valencia has been like that for quite a while now, but Litquake almost certainly bent the curve toward the insufferable.

A friend want to go to the Roxie cinema last night, so I spent most of it in the Mission. It had been awhile.
We looked around for places to eat, and apparently Litquake is going on, so almost every place on Valencia had some shrieking woman standing on a chair inside. Lots of leafy trees, and the place just looks bizarre now. There is a Blue Dot store. It does look a lot like Brooklyn, and I don't understand that place either. We ended up going to a Maya place on Mission proper. Food was good and cheap, which is what I always associated with the Mission. I was really surprised about how Twee everything else was.
But the worst was as we were crossing Valencia on the way to Harringtons. Heading in the other direction, towards us, was a middle-aged man wearing a bright blue leather coat over a t-shirt, and a long purple scarf draped around his neck. Everything about him was new and clean and he appeared to have a three-figure haircut, so he couldn't have been homeless, or a hippie. He had a dead stare on his face.
I do not think I will be going back there for quite awhile.
Eric Burdon is incredibly cool even 50 years on...By the way - if anyone truly hates San Francisco, so to the beach and watch this:
The only person I know from BH has a beard and TWO earrings.
