Valencia has been like that for quite a while now, but Litquake almost certainly bent the curve toward the insufferable.

A friend want to go to the Roxie cinema last night, so I spent most of it in the Mission. It had been awhile.

We looked around for places to eat, and apparently Litquake is going on, so almost every place on Valencia had some shrieking woman standing on a chair inside. Lots of leafy trees, and the place just looks bizarre now. There is a Blue Dot store. It does look a lot like Brooklyn, and I don't understand that place either. We ended up going to a Maya place on Mission proper. Food was good and cheap, which is what I always associated with the Mission. I was really surprised about how Twee everything else was.

But the worst was as we were crossing Valencia on the way to Harringtons. Heading in the other direction, towards us, was a middle-aged man wearing a bright blue leather coat over a t-shirt, and a long purple scarf draped around his neck. Everything about him was new and clean and he appeared to have a three-figure haircut, so he couldn't have been homeless, or a hippie. He had a dead stare on his face.

I do not think I will be going back there for quite awhile.

How awful for you.

What do you guys think of Bernal Heights? I am thinking of moving out of Soma/Mission Bay.

The place is more on the border of the Mission on Mission street.

Bernal is wonderful. Lefty was askeered of it, though, so YMMV.

Before you move here, though, you're not an asshole are you? :) Check out Bernalwood for a bit of the local color.

Went to Manresa last night - all I can say is WOW. Can't believe I waited this long to go and definitely will be heading back there regularly. Most memorable part of the experience, other than the food, was some a-hole complaining about the truffle supplement. He was evidently paying for a party of six but had an issue with the server not telling him the cost of the supplement so he decided it was a good idea to have a tantrum for 15 minutes and continually tell the manager to "get out of my face". Class act. The manager handled it with aplomb and apologized to everyone else present.
