Last week, I wrote about being drawn by an artist. Today, I can speak about being painted by an artist. I spent my afternoon consulting with the young gentleman who drew me last Wednesday, and we've agreed that he should paint me. For the drawing, he requested that I wear clothes with good light/dark contrast, as he was drawing me in charcoal.

The drawing is on his website - https://www.stefanocurti.art/drawings

When we discussed the possibility of a painting, he requested that I opt for more color (as if, in my case, I'd need any prompting on that score).

Not being certain of what level of technical challenge he wanted to tackle, I laid out four selections of attire, of varying levels of formality, and all with a good deal of color to them.

When the artist had been in my apartment previously, I had given him a tour of my "collection", as it were -- all the oddments of clothing and objects (some odder than others) that I've accumulated over the last several decades. Certain things stuck in his imagination.

After seeing what I had laid out for him, he asked if there were anything else available, to which I replied - "the rest of my wardrobe". He immediately suggested the now infamous peacock jacket.

Obliging him, I donned it, along with all of the formal rig with which I wear it, and posed in front of the Louis Quinze chest of drawers and mirror, where I do all of my normal posted photos. We tried a number of poses, and came up with one that seems to satisfy us both. He took some notes, making a few quick sketches, and measuring the pose to ensure that he is able to include everything onto the canvas when he paints me.

I believe that work will begin on this project later this week.

I have posted my initial selections of attire, and his final selection, below:

This is fascinating Mr. Crust. What fun! How long will it take, do you know?

I have no idea how long the process will be, but I don't think it will be that long. I will know more once the artist starts work.

That is quite a good likeness! I eagerly await the finished product

Trying on some recent sales purchases (all 70% off) for an all white event, I will swap out the tee for a white smedley polo or white linen shirt

Brunello Striped Linen Jacket
Brunello Chinos
Brunello Suede Slip ons
Brunello Woven Belt

The suit looks great. I imagine it's not easy finding well fitting garments at your height even custom. One nitpick. Despite the great fit of the jacket, the button placement feels off to me. I think the lower buttons would look better with more space between them and the top buttons should be a bit higher.

Back to the old four pattern bingo which I so love to play.

Desperately need to get some new suits as I’m getting very bored with the three I brought to Australia but I’m holding out for the weather to get warmer as I’d like to still knock about in tailoring when the weather gets warm and sticky… any suggestions for colours or fabrics my wardrobe is missing are welcome. I’d like a lightweight brown suit definitely.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
