What is bold about using a silk knit tie? That tie doesn't work well with the outfit.
Bold (semi-facetiously) being blue shirt + black tie...not something I see myself being comfortable doing, though your blue tux shirt does lend some steel to the idea.
Out of curiosity, why do you consider the black grenadine a good tie for the look? I agree with you that it is, but it doesn't strike me as distinctly different from a relatively slubby raw silk.

that tie just adds dullness to the outfit,...

..and that wrinkled shirt? Id wear that rolling out of bed in am to get sunday morning bagels.....

not your best look there...
Sometimes a dull look is intentional, and meh, shirts wrinkle. Not really going to sweat it by day's end.

And for the love of all that is holy, @ericgereghty, you have far too many expensive ties to not be able to knot them properly.

Vandas practically dimple themselves in the right place so I can only assume you're purposely trying to make Gerald look bad. Are you? ARE YOU?

Ironically, I struggle most properly knotting my Vandas. A me thing, not a G thang, to be sure.

Was interviewed for an executive position yesterday. Not really sure I'll take the job if offered it, but it was a good opportunity to break out this suit (wore it with black oxfords for the interview though.)

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
