I pretty much automatically like your fits. Jk. Fantastic. I have an almost identical sports jacket, and I like to pair it with darker grey trews, for a bit of contrast.

Love this outfit :)

Getting back on track, jk. Very nice.

Thanks gents! I appreciate the kind words. Pliny I have discovered almost every jacket I own works with dark grey trousers.

First try (and message) after reading this topic since more than 1 year. It is very inspiring to learn (and recently, I find the level especially high) and I have always a long way before finding the perfect fit for me. Because of my work (no dress code at all), I am in the casual side of CM and since only a few weeks, I have started to find some coherence between clothes.
It's hot today, so linen and a lot of wrinkles.

Maybe taking in the waist again a little but I wear this jacket most of the time unbuttoned (too casual in my mind).

I don't mind wearing a tie with today or yesterday's shirt. I think it fits in with the Ivy/Trad tradition of mixing casual and formal elements in a sometimes brash and flippant kind of way. That being said, I think a different tie or different pocket square would have tied this together better. I think the pocket square does a good job capturing the red of the shirt, the brown of the cardigan, and the khaki of the pants. The tie captures the red of the shirt and the navy of the jacket. Together they seem a bit off to me.

I don't do pocket square sans souci very well.

AE Strands oxblood

I am a sucker for this kind of POW flannel.

How do you find the Lazio shoulder? It's gradually dawned on me I don't need any padding, but if the cut permits I will accept a bit. I do like this cut, I have to say, and might be tempted from the Neapolitans.

And I see no reason to apologize for this square. (I think apologies run counter to the purpose of the thing, myself.)

So the square is Rubi? If so, which one?
re the trews - Was trying to say I think you could go darker grey with that jacket. YMMV

Good morrow, my dudes.

Liking your 1-2 pattern fits lately very much.

Re: Talk of shoe color.

If you want to darken your shoes, you can always polish with a shade darker and go from there. IF you don't like the results, strip using saphir.

?? Has never worked for me.
Thanks, and really, that jacket looks really good. Will check the book next time! I find it difficult to find good English cloth for summer jackets. It's like Fresco or Linen or nothing. The hopsack from the italian Lesser looks nice though, and the gunclubs.

To be clear, we're talking about different books. Mine was from an old and long-gone CB for HL.
The new one doesn't really have anything I'd call a gunclub, but a few of the checks r nice. The hopsack looks great.

That pattern is absolutely fine with a dark, solid suit, jcm.

Is it you who does the standup? Now that I'd like to see! :D

Welcome to the (active part of) the forum! Always good to see a new poster. Jacket and pants are separates, right? I think a bigger contrast, color-wise, would work better. Try this jacket with chocolate, tobacco, olive chinos, for example. Me, I'm less concerned with internal matching as external matching these days. All day, I only moved along this railing:

The Friday Challenge is to wear a knit tie. Since I have exactly three of them, this provided a greater challenge than one might expect, but here are the results, in any case.

Blazer, trousers & shoes - BB
Shirt - Tyrwhitt
Tie - Michelsons of London, via Thomas Farthing, London
Cufflinks - Wedgwood
PS - PRL
And, with a bow to Victor, today's cologne - Penhaligon's Douro

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
