Long, long ago, IBM was notorious for having a strict dress code that required employees wear a grey suit, white shirt, and black shoes.

were there of company suicides during this era?

I think there's insufficient tonal range here, E.

Pictures from my nightshift

I think this look is more pleasing to the eye than the others I have seen you post, Don. The critical difference? I think it's the long SB jacket, which makes you look less barrel-chested than a DB.

The problem is the illusion that there is clothing or a form of dressing that is "timeless" and "classic"

Timeless would be a stretch, in my opinion. However, considering that what we perceive as Classic Menswear is basically the same for a century (yes, I'm aware of the change in silhouette, but the scheme is basically the same), it's not a stretch to call it classic. As with music, "classic" is just a reference.
The illusion that you're ranting on, by the way I see it, is the biased judgment that some make of the heterodox outfits, such as yours.

with respect to the IBM dress code, you guys are forgetting the most important element of their attire was the blue tie that matched the IBM blue logo.

Some one asked if there were any suicides, no, everyone knew what was expected of them, and they followed orders as required. No stress at all.

If any of us transported back to a previous decade (1900's 20's 30's 40's, etc, whit even as early as the 90's) they would tell us we all look like clownshit so yes I do believe it is an illusion.

And I am not basing any of this off of my style or other adventurous dressers from CM, but rather how many in here approach CM as to SWD. It really annoys me when CM posters use these as points of debate when they are stating their hate for SWD.

I know at least one poster who this does not apply to.

tibor and albert hall would fit in fine if we time machined em back to their respective decades.

Trill has a good point. :nodding:

There is a difference between clownshit and odd. I believe many of us would be the latter.

As one of the few regulars on CM that appreciates--though admittedly doesn't understand sometimes--the fits on WAYWT, I'd argue that it's an issue of degree rather than absolutes. The standards of SW&D fluctuate more rapidly than that of CM.

I know it's a pointless debate, but it's one I find intriguing provided those involved are willing to be nuanced about it.
(While I think too much subjectivity is damning within a standard, a dialectical discussion between different standards does not suffer for it. Probably not happening though.....)
