When it comes to trousers for the most common gun club patterns - I take it as light/mid grey or dark/charcoal grey wool is the classical combination? Sand/egg cotton trousers?

I lean towards hues of grey, though a lighter khaki-beige could certainly play well. Without seeing the specific cloth it's hard to say, but I would say a good rule of thumb is to pay attention to the ground color of the jacket. The checks will create their own pop, so you'll want the trouser color to complement the solid backdrop of the jacket. In the past I've looked beyond the pattern entirely, instead asking myself what trouser color I would wear if the jacket was solid (again, based on the ground color of the cloth).

Seems to be a popular fabric choice this year.

Since you asked about gun club and egg, here's gun club and ivory wool flannel from a few weeks ago.

I used to have a great gun club check sport coat from JPress. Well, I still have it, it just no longer remotely fits me. It’s a 44R, but these days I’m a 48R... I loved this jacket — still in perfect condition. Here’s a couple of pictures to give an idea of the color/pattern:

Too much in what way? Price? The pattern looks great
Price is good. More so is it too loud, but you answered that, thabk you sir. I want versatility. I think the colors lend to that nicely. Doing it. I'll post pics when I get it

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
