Hello gentlemen can you guys speak to the comfort level of Gs compared to Alden. Same, better? Thanks
To me they are very similar to Barrie Alden last. There is a tiny bit more room in the toe box and the heel is a bit, not very much just a bit, more snug on my feet. I think mid-foot support is a little better in my GS boots. however all that being said, they fit very similar and if you are used to an Alden, you will find GS very comfortable. I have had no problems wearing either brand for extended time on first wear. If you are considering GS, I'd say do it, you won't regret the decision.

Similar comfort for most people vs. the Barrie last. I think Leo has a touch more room in the toe and a bit more mid-foot support than Barrie, which gives it a (slight) edge for me.

Feet and lasts are complicated, but Grant Stone seems to be diligent about designing for fit and comfort.
Should have read down the page before posting my response to the query. You pretty well summed it up before I posted.

sounds almost a bit like modified last?
It seems like Modified is more of a variation on Trubalance, but I can't say for sure. It's definitely . What I've seen on Modified isn't as classically beautiful as Leo or Barrie.

I'd say it this way - sizing is going to be the same for 99% of people, and anyone with wide-ish toes will like Leo's smidgen of extra room. I broke my pinky toe shortly after getting my first pair of Grant Stone boots, and nearly lived in them for several months. My Barrie pairs were pretty good during that period, but not quite as good as Leo.

The Oliver last is pretty different than Hampton, but comfortable.

For guys who own Alden Barrie and GS Leo, is there any difference at all in length. Due to the low volume (my heels are narrow, but the forefeet are only a bit so) of my feet, I am a little tempted to go down a half size (9.5) from my Barrie (10), which is a tad longer than I need...however, I wouldn't do it if there is any suspicion that the Leo might be a shorter...I probably shouldn't do it anyway because the biggest fail in footwear sizing is to be a bit too short...I seem to be okay in TruBalance a half size down. I also recently figured out that Viberg 2030 in 9.5 is probably a little better for me than 10.

I was previously advised to go with a 10 by GS, but you know how it is on the fence? :)

I know you are looking from some other personal experience with the two lasts but I can confirm the Leo is indeed slightly shorter than the barrie. In some cases, we have even seen some go the other direction, sizing up half a size for the Leo from the barrie.

I take my Barrie size for the Leo.
I wear a 9.5D in most shoes, including every pair of Allen Edmonds I own. Usually works for me, though loafers are usually a bit sloppy (too big with more heel slip than I like).
I sized down to a 9D on the Barrie last. Perfect.
I bought the same size, 9D, on the Leo last (Ottawas). Heaven. One of the best fitting pair of boots I have ever owned. And so sharp.
So my advice? Stick with your Barrie size.

Thank you, guys, that is all very helpful!

Okay, I will give the 10D a try...Now, for a second question, are some of the boots snugger fitting than others due to differences in how the leather responds to the lasting process? I suppose presence or absence of a lining could also contribute. I know I sound like I am obsessing, but I just find myself owning a lot of boots that require thicker socks than I would like (My feet get hot and sweaty so easily...)
