I've gone out the door, briefcase in hand, wearing a tie my kids gave me so they could see me in it. Proper tie hidden in briefcase, of course, for immediate change at work. Hard part was remembering to switch back on the way home. It's always difficult @smittycl when the difficult tie was a present from wife or partner. Mrs K suggested I wore a certain tie she bought me a few years ago and I made some excuse, not wishing to tell the whole truth...
Smashing! Which watch are you wearing, if you don't mind my asking.
I have many difficult ties but I kept thinking of @An Acute Style ’s comments ‘I’m always peeved by the poster who complains they have a hard time wearing a navy knit tie …’ I do! Yes, of course, I have a limited wardrobe, but it’s not that alone that is the problem but rather the tie itself.
This lovely dark navy Budd knitted tie ought to be easy to wear. But it’s not:
- The dark colour conveys formality while the knitted texture suggests informality. 1960s Mods would have worn it with very formal suits but that does not seem quite right today.
- It is also a very heavy tie and therefore difficult to control without a tie pin or something.
- Finally, it is almost impossible to achieve a decent knot.
But I love it, of course, and wear it notwithstanding the many challenges - as I did here last week with this vintage Dunhill tie clip to keep it under control.
