Do you know what happened to Kenjiro’s operation? He seemed busy as per his IG.
All I can think is that it's really difficult to be running your own small business and tailoring. Rents seem to have really risen in Paris and made things difficult even for more established businesses that have reduced their footprints.

I was thinking about you the other day. I was looking at some Georges de Paris stuff I may take apart and was amused at the quintessential hallmarks of Parisian tailoring being done in Washington, DC. You may be the only other person in the country who would have recognized some of the details. I didn’t know he had passed; his story would make an interesting post.

I didn’t even know he had died! Interesting to find so much confusion in his obituaries; the Post has a good one: https://www.washingtonpost.com/nati...247a78-5b1c-11e5-8e9e-dce8a2a2a679_story.html

I haven’t ever seen his stuff; I didn’t realize he actually had trained in Paris but I’ll be curious to see the stuff you cut up.

I would do egregious harm to everyone on this thread to have his hair if I lived to be 81 years young.

FYI, Camps de Luca will be visiting New York this month, staying at the Benjamin from Jan 19-22, and planning to return twice more this year, for those interested in trying them. I don't have a commercial connection to them other than being a customer (yes, I paid for my stuff). To make an appointment for placing an order, you can contact them at info AT campsdeluca.com

NYC in Jan is one of the worst times to go to NYC. Weather really sucks that month.

Do you mind sharing what the pricing is like?

It’s been a couple years (thanks pandemic) since my last order but I think ballpark around 7000-8000 euros for a suit.

Disagree with qualifications. I am a NYC native who lived in Chicago for 17 years.
Now in the SF Bay Area. Was in NYC in January 2014 when the Polar Vortex had
settled on the area for several months. Daily temperatures were 10-20F. Night around
0 F. Except for a few snow showers, the weather was clear. The streets, shops and
museums were half empty. Reservations were no problem.Only disappointment was
that my brother in law in Connecticut couldn't make it to lunch because train service
was suspended due to frozen signals or something. I wore a Burberry Balmacaan
with a heavy sweater and a rag wool ski cap. More formally, a cashmere blazer
and heavy wool slacks sufficed. It was truly a winter wonderland.

Their Atelier de Luca starts around 2500 euro, part machine made in Italy. They might also offer that less expensive option during their trip.

I had a fitting a few months back. Looked good at that point. Haven’t received the product yet so can’t speak more about it than that.

It would definitely be worth asking them directly if they can fit on or take orders for Atelier de Luca. A friend who is one of the best dressed guys around, Paul, wears a lot of the atelier stuff. I am à deeply insecure person so always ordered the OG Camps de Luca line but he looks great.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
