Slightly off, but I once approached this pretty lady in a bar. She was wearing a green shirt like the waitresses. I asked her to get me another beer, and she didn't like it.

It's funny how confused people can get by seeing a well-dressed person in public, kinda sad because it makes you think how rare it is.

I guess in todays world the only excuse for being well-dressed is being on the job.

Some years ago I got asked that in an Atlantic City casino not only by some of their customers but also by their own security staff. O tempora, o mores. I was wearing a suit and so was my friend.

It happened to me in our Barney's here, some chinese guys asked me if they could try on clothes. I was like um sure, I'm not going to stop you. Then there was the terrible time someone thought I worked at Banana Republic. But I did.

Happens to me in specialty boutiques a fair bit, especially in places where I am on good terms with the staff, or just happen to be browsing very slowly. Sometimes I'll oblige, provide information about the designer, sizing, silhouette, etc... have even escorted customers to a changeroom. Then they say "I'd like to get this," and I say "You'll probably need an SA, there's one over there."

Edit: other times, a customer will ask me "I really like your belt/shoes/jeans. Are those from your store? Where (in the store) do I find them?" If they have something, I'll oblige. Otherwise, I'll say either "It is X. You should suggest that they cary the brand." or "It is from X, but last season."
