Looking for some advice. I have a relatively new pair of Dovers that have been worn sparingly, probably 20 times over the past few years. Both heels show cracking on both sides despite always using Edward green fitted trees, never wearing in inclement weather and conditioning here and there. Did I get a bad pair? Should I reach out to EG?

It looks like, either surface crazing due to over burnishing, which can be helped by using a leather conditioner, or its creasing which can happen even on heel counters due to flexing, or its ( less likely from what I can see) growth marks in the leather. It doesn't look like the kind of cracking to do with faulty leather IMO.

However, there is no harm in sending the photos to Edward Green to share your concerns and see what they say.

That’s the surface polish cracking. Remove the burnishing polish and the cracking will go away.

What do we think about a Dover in brown London Grain?

I saw Douglas Cordeaux wearing his in the photo above a few days ago and I've been kinda drawn to them since then. I kept thinking I'd go for mink in 202 for a second Dover but these look so cool - more casual than DOAK but still have that character the pie crust brings.

Can someone enable me, please?

One of two things.

As @smoothie1 mentioned, it could be cracked wax. Easily repaired by removing said wax and reapplying new wax.

Secondly as mentioned by @shoefan57, it would be the heel stiffeners flexing (or even broken if these were celastic which EG doesn't use). They forced the stiffeners in during the lasting process which under the pressure of the heel caused them to flex or deform.
That then left miniscule spaces of air where the stiffeners were. If it feels like you can move it or (heaven forbid feels broken) then you know your problem.

What is a Saphir match for chestnut antique calf?
The Edward Green nourishing cream in Chestnut is an exact match. It's made by
Boot Black in Japan and is available from Gentlemen's Footwear -

How long ago did you get them? I’ve got a couple of pairs from around 2015 that this has happened to. It was there from new, disappears when I use creams but eventually shows again. It’s never got any worse though - I assume that it’s the burnishing not the leather as it’s only on the darker parts.

Hi all, first post here. Was just wondering regarding EG loafers.. i am stuck in between the 137 Duke and 184 Ventnor unlined. After reading through many pages, some says the 137 fits slightly wider some say not. Is there a large different between these two lasts? Also the Ventnor is in suede, therefore it should be easier to stretch? Looking at both in UK10. Thanks!
