Really, you didn't size down? From your pics I would have guessed you would have sized down 2.
FWIW, my NSs fit like this when sized down 2:

Thanks. But now you have got me thinking again. Others have commented on fairly significant stretching of the APCs after a bit of wear. Was this a factor for you? I'm a little concerned that one size down, plus stretching over time would be too big.

They do stretch, but I guess the less stress on the jeans to begin with, the less they will stretch in the end. Oh, and this might be important: I have always washed them after a few wears since I got them. I don't do the hardcore-denimhead-six-months-no-wash-thing. I'm not a miner.

On the other hand: these were my first A.P.C.'s and I don't have any experience with smaller sizes. Next time I will size down 1, though, to hopefully get a better fitting waist without the rest getting too tight.

Seriously, no disrespect to NOBD, but it's really bad advice to tell people not to size down on APC. It will only result in people wasting money on jeans that will fit loose after 5 or 6 wears. Definitely size down, and -2 is probably right for most people. I am by no means a skinny guy but I size down 3 on my APCs now.

3? Damn.

I agree 2 is about right but it really depends on your thighs as well.

Yes - it depends. I don't have big thighs relative to my waist. -3 works for me. -1 may work better for some. -2 works best for most people.

I understand. No disrespect taken. It wasn't meant as advice, merely as a desciption of my experience. Hence the 'On the other hand' part. Besides that, as a general rule: never listen to my advice.

Agreed, there is no rule. ******/thighs are big enough that no amount of size manipulation will fit me into NS's.

+1. It obv works for NOBD (he looks great in them) but is no good general rule.

How about the Rescues? I had them on last time I bought my second NSs in the end, but I also liked the Rescues.

I actually like the rescues more than the NS due to the higher rise. They feel more suited for dressier occasions than the NS's. I had a pair of Rescues tapered down to 7.5" and they were awesome. Too bad I also had the waist and seat tapered too.

I have a 35" waist and got a 33 size NS. Stretched so much that I had to get it taken in at the sides. Again stretched so much that they are waiting for my tailor to come from his village to take them in on both side of the center back loop.

Basically what I get done is to pinch some fabric and have an extra stitch out it. Something like what a side adjusters do on trousers. Except that this is permanent.

Any suggestions on how to reduce the waist of a jeans.

Just get new jeans that fit, for God's sake, unless you want to end up with kissing back pockets.

Or, you could just inhale and then clench:
