Considering a trip to Iceland.

I went to Iceland last year, and it was amazing. Keep in mind that greater Reykjavik has a population of only 200,000 (compared with greater Chicago, with a population of 10,000,000), so you may be surprised by how small it is. However, it's absolutely beautiful, the air is amazingly clean, and the fish is astonishingly good. Also, Icelanders are incredibly nice, and most of them are fluent in English. I think the economy recovered a bit, so it won't be nearly as cheap as when I went, but it's still well worth it.

Asian here. Been to Reykjavik last year, didn't experience hostility towards foreigners.

Iceland actually got its name from the fact that it wanted to have a name that didn't seem welcoming to foreigners. Its sister country Greenland got its name because its a block of ice that wanted to sound more inviting. If you compare the cultures side by side, Iceland really is a beautiful country that as other people have noted, very clean though culturally, they don't really appreciate foreigners. After doing some psychology research this summer, they're very advanced in academics.

Can't say I've ever had ram testicles, seal flippers, or putrefied shark but I'd love to give it all a try.

Bump up the jams.

I'm heading here on a solo trip in the beginning of December. Any tips for lodging/eating on a budget? I think I'll be just staying around Reykjavik.

The best time to be here is in the coldest winter months or in the hottest summer months. From late December - Mars for winter(snow) or June - August for summer(15-20+°C), the other months are mostly rain and 4-8°C

I shared an apartment with an icelandic girl while in college...

She looked like an albino version of Björk, similar irritating voice, eating dry fish while watching movies, listening to depressive music...

Her friends were pretty similar, I´ve heard icelandic women are good looking, unfortunately, I haven´t met any.

Ah, and my sister had a boyfriend from Iceland for about a year... he looked like a clone of Dolph Lundgren, had the same irritating accent and the same disgusting food habits.

I have never seen the point with Iceland, is a bit like Scotland with volcanoes, populated by shorter Norwegians who eat shark and goat heads. (stereotypes, I love them)

If you want the viking experience, you should try Norway, better scenery, better looking women and, if you get tired of it, you can always take a boat to England.

It´s just my opinion and my personal experience, there´s probably a lot of people that would tell you that Iceland is the greatest country on Earth, and they may be right.

Actually, a good friend of mine is moving there next year... if he reads this he´s going to get mad at me.
