the non-conservative business dress element is a pair of shell loafers worn without socks.

Wore a very similar outfit to work today, right down to the cordovan (colored in my case) loafers without socks. I work in a very conservative office. I felt that this was conservative business dress, but with justenough ****-you provided by the spread collar, square, and sockless-ness

I think the tie is a bit too muted. If it were me I'd go with a deep crimson with a subtle pindot pattern, or a dark gold coloured solid tie. But I do like the clean lines of the jacket.

Is it just me or is your shirt sleeve a half-inch or so too short?

Another case of too much going on.

I like the tie, needless to say, and I have become a fan of these pencil stripe shirts, especially in blue. In fact, I intend to order one this week. The shirt and tie work well together. The shirt and suit work well together. The tie and suit work well together. But all together it's a bit much.

Actually, it possible would not be--were it not for the square. The square kills it. It's just too much. Substitute plain white and that would be fine.

The coat looks overly tight to me and the ticket pocket is distracting. As noted, I don't ticket pockets on city suits any more but if it's done, it's better if the ticket pocket is placed a hair forward of the hip pocket, in keeping with the angle of the quarters. Otherwise it gives the impression that you are leaning backward.

Sorry to butt in, but that tie being visible below the buttoning point looks a bit wrong to me. I think a coat with such open quarters really needs a lower buttoning point and/or higher-waisted trousers (unless you've just tied your tie too long, but I doubt you'd do that).

^ Spoo: the trousers do strike me as being a bit too fashion-y and narrow. Otherwise its a nice look, but I agree with Manton that the PS throws it off a bit.

^^^Spoo, I don't like seeing your watch hanging beneath your shirt sleeve. Also, and maybe more of an issue, IMO, is that I don't like watches with bracelets worn with city suits. Maybe it's just me, but I cringe whenever I see it. I prefer leather straps.

That shirt doesn't look like it was made to accommodate the width of the watch, so maybe it doesn't fit underneath the cuff? Just my guess.

I think my overall concern with Spoo's fit is that it's so slim. Fine for going out but not really conservative business dress. I dig waisted stuff, more so than most here, but the Trad in me still believes tailored clothing shouldn't cling too closely to the body's true contours.

I like most of the outfit. I like the PS, but I think it probably leaves conservative business dress territory. The only thing I don't like is the socks shoes combination. I like both, but everytime I put a brown sock into a burgundy shoe it just looks wrong to me. What do others think, is this generally a fine combination that my eye objects to for idiosyncratic reasons?
