colors for skin tone

I've read that asians shouldn't wear yellow because it's not a good match for our skin tone. Yet, didn't it work for Bruce Lee when he's wearing that yellow jump suit?

i guess if you look like bruce lee, you can wear whatever he wore. easy-peasy.

but seriously - there's as many different asian skin colors as there are caucasian. probably more, even.

i think yellow is a difficult color in general, for people whose skin is lighter than, say, brown, simply because it's so close in color to skin. but most of the time it's off just enough to make the skin look sickly.

same deal with 'peach' colors - you gotta be careful with those.

this is why blue shirts are so popular. most skin looks good with blue.

One of the Primary reasons I closed my Manhattan shop was because if even just one more "personal dresser" had come in with her damn Skin Tone/Clothing Color palette ... let's just say though I like making horizontally striped shirts I have no intention of wearing a jumpsuit of the same genre.

Generalizations such as those don't work. Skin tones are so widely varied that the best rule to follow is to look at yourself and the fabric in a mirror. And, yes, I know this is a somewhat maverick p.o.v. which may upset many, but hey. I tells it like I sees it.

1. If you are Bruce Lee nobody will ever criticize your clothing anyway. 2. Look up Flusser's Dressing the man. At the beginning he has nice pictures of men wearing different colors. When you look at these you really understand that colors do matter. Mathieu

The colour chosen should bring/direct attention to the face and not the clothes, I think.

And is absolutely correct. There are large variations in Chinese skin tones alone, (happens when there are 1.6 billion of you), not to mention other Asians. Sam goes for all other races and ethnicities, sand especially for Americans (blacks and whites in particular), who are usually mixes of a whole bunch of ethnicities. There are some generalizations to be made, but these are only minimally useful. The only way to tell if a particular color is for you is to look in the mirror. Hmmm, I guess 30 years in the business gives you some insights one these things, huh
