@gonnagetmine , naturally I won't argue with personal preferences, but I'm talking about balance, proportions and masking certain silhouette imperfections that each of us has. There is no need to change the width of leg opening, but if you draw two lines on the front and back of the leg (looking from the side) from above the knee to the bottom, making these lines more vertical gives you better proportions of the top and bottom. Legs that taper too quickly make the hips look roomy.

The image below shows what I mean (I could have overshot slightly with the anchoring of the line, but the image still reflects what I wanted to convey).

Your pics show the problem that I think the mod 3 cut has and that I described above - the balance between the hips and legs is off, especially when viewed from the side (it's not visible from the front and back). Also, the back leg would fit better if more space was added there (it's more visible on the right leg in your case).

PS. I don't want to come across as overly critical, because Cavour does a great job, but since there is this place to gather community opinions, I'm sharing my thoughts.

I actually thought the same. I think the trousers would look much better if the knee measurement was increased to that of the next size, even if the other measurements stay the same. For example, size 50 EU should have the knee measurement of size 52 EU etc.

My trousers have an opening width of 20 cm and knee width of 23 cm which, for Cavour trousers, would be the opening width of size 48 with knee width of size 50.

Ah the visual helps, thanks. Appreciate the critique, might consider letting it out then, should be an easy fix.

Has anyone done a comparison between either Mod 2 or 3 and suitsupply Vigo trousers in terms of fit? I’ve gotten a decent fit dialed in with the vigos but SuSu fabric selection is uninspiring.
Mod 2 is lower rise and slimmer than Vigo both through the leg and waist. I need to size up in mod 2 to get a comfortable fit.
I'd say it roughly fits like Vigo minus one size.
Mod 3 is a much higher rise than Vigo, but I still need to size up.
I.e. I wear eu 48 in Vigo and eu 50 in mod 2/3, but Vigo is pretty slim without being too restrictive, while mod2/3 in 50 is comfortable. Mod 2/3 in size 48 is skinny on my and if I sit I am afraid I'll rip them everywhere.

I received my Mod 2 Winter Hopsack Jacket Navy Today and I would appreciate a fit check, as I am new to tailoring. It is a size 52.

I did my best by taking the pics. If needed I can find someone to take better pics for me. I think the shoulders are okay. It seems to bit slightly too short, both on the sleeves and the rear (I just noticed I should have used contrasting pants to see this clearly). I think it barely covers my seat. I can measure the sleeves if needed to be sure. I didn't appreciate a collar gap when doing some movements with my arms (horizontal).

Not sure if it is too tight around the buttoning point. Unfortunately I think size 54 may be too large on the shoulders.

I appreciate any help that you can offer. Later I can try to find an iPhone or something to get better quality pictures.

I'm size UK7,5 in oxfords with AS, EB and Carmina on the Rain last. I have to size up 0,5 for the Simpson last due to it not being wide enough, but in reality I should get a wider size UK7,5 since size UK8 becomes too long. With C&J I'm a size UK7,5 with all their sizes and models. For the R, S and K last I'm a size UK7,5 in derbies and oxfords. I do however require a tongue pad to compensate for the high instep.

Hope that helps.
Regarding the hand welted penny loafer, I just got my pair in 9UK. For me, the fit is perfect and comfortable right away. I have quite a wide forefoot and use 9UK in C&J 325 cavendish.

There’s a 9.5 available for those seeking a daily driver that pairs perfectly with a sharp suit

We can't see anything on those photos. You should have the light hit you, not the camera

Hello. Thank you for trying to help me and I apologize because the pictures were not good for that.

I tried taking better pictures now. I think it is definitely too tight on the buttoning point, what I wonder is the shoulders. If it is tight there as well I may be lucky sizing up, otherwise I would need to give up on this model.

I could use some help with sizing. Size 50 mod 2 trousers. Should I size up or fix it with alterations?

Waist seems perfect.
Crotch area bit tight.
Thighs a bit tight.
Size 52 came in today, way better fit indeed. Will post pics when I have the chance in daylight.

Girlfriend says no alterations are needed at all (except taking in the waist and hemming ofcourse). But will judge on that after I have seen some pictures.

Does anyone know if "hips measurement" for Mod 3 trousers is done with pleats open? Or if someone can measure the hips with the pleats closed, for comparison. I'm interested in size 48 EU but any size can be used to compare with size guide measurement.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
