@kevinsvindland

If my size in shoes from Alfred Sargent, Enzo Bonafe, Carmina (Rain-last) are 8,5 UK which size should I go for in the hand welted Penny loafers in black?

I need a 9 UK in a few C & J I've tested and also in the Simpson-last from Carmina. That is the extent of my sizing knowledge though.
I'm size UK7,5 in oxfords with AS, EB and Carmina on the Rain last. I have to size up 0,5 for the Simpson last due to it not being wide enough, but in reality I should get a wider size UK7,5 since size UK8 becomes too long. With C&J I'm a size UK7,5 with all their sizes and models. For the R, S and K last I'm a size UK7,5 in derbies and oxfords. I do however require a tongue pad to compensate for the high instep.

Hope that helps.

Dear gentlemen,

Hope you will be able to help with some advice concerning Cavour blazers.

I am 184 cm, 88 kgs, and based on my current experience with Cavour blazers I am somewhere between sizes.

52 - this is recently my preferred choice, but I am somehow missing 2-3 cm in back and sleeves length. Chest and shoulder width seems to be a bit loose.

150 - better fit in chest and shoulder width. The length seems to be also better (I prefer longer fit). But definitely I need 4-5 cm extra in waist.

Do you think 150 size will offer enough extra material to gain these 4-5 cm in waist after some tailor alterations?

Blazers I have on my purchase list are already sold out in 52 size. But still available in size 150. That’s why I am asking these questions.

Any tips and experience from your side? Thanks.

There's definitely 4-5 cm of fabric reserve in the back and side seams if you want to let them out. But if you'll gain more weight, most likely there will be no more room to let out

Not sure how well size 52 fits you, but generally never compromise on fit based on availabilty. You'll not be content in the long run. Also, don't take out the waist/chest at the back seam, it'll throw off the balance between the front and back panels. If you must, take it out at the side seams.

I got the British flannel trousers and I was again struck by how well the mod 3 pattern works.

Took some photos before dropping them to be hemmed.

@kevinsvindland is there anymore details on the cloth you could share please? It looks and feels like worsted flannel but it would be great to know which mill it comes from. Minnis?

looks awesome, do you wear the same size on both mod2 and mod3 (in case you tried both)? ty

Thanks! I can't help I'm afraid, I've only tried Mod 3, the silhouette on Mod 2 is too slim for my taste.

From what I've read here, people do often size up for Mod 2.

I can get away with size 52 with zero alterations and typically go for size 54 and fully let out the thighs and calfs. So the difference between the two models are quite significant.

Glad you like it!
It is woven for us by an old mill in Huddersfield. Slightly drier and not as woolen as than the classic VBC that everyone knows.
I find that it is more durable, and less prone to friction, particularly in the crotch area.

I’m looking at buying a hop sack navy jacket. I live in a temperate but rarely hot climate so a very summery jacket isn’t useful. Between the English Hopsack and Winter Hopsack jackets, which is more “year-round”?

They are pretty much the same.

Only a bunch of swatches, and post-its on my desk so far.

But will make sure to post some sneak peeks as soon as the goods arrive!

I can share my little moodboard:

Thanks a lot! Do you know the weight in oz?

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
