buying my first suit for a wedding

I need to buy my first suit for an upcoming wedding. I'm looking for:

* something relatively trendy
* something I can wear as a suit, or just a jacket, out to dinner or clubs as well as to this wedding
* something that will look good on a tall, skinny, manorexic guy
* something cheap (since it is my first suit, I want something inexpensive)

Suggestions anyone?

thick as thieves is inexpensive?

(By the way, Carllrac, the astoundingly handsome Asian dude on the thick as thieves web site is our very own Get Smart.)

Well, consider the list going from cheap to not-so. 'Inexpensive' has different meanings across a global website as well.

I would consider Thick as Thieves not only inexpensive, but one of the best values you can get for your money. If you want to go cheaper than that you are going to be looking at either Chaps Ralph Lauren or some other line of suits that wouldn't be worth getting. Also, it doesn't seem to me like TaT is a viable option for him unless this wedding is going to be a number of weeks from now.

I emailed thick as thieves, and they said they could have me the suit in 3 weeks plus shipping, which is enough time.

So now my question is ... of the makes/models/fabrics they have, suggest some combinations that would look nice and trendy, but not TOO cutting edge, and a jacket that could be wearable with jeans.

Here's my thoughts:

One button suit (http://www.thickasthievesla.com/oneButtonSuit.html)

Color: black

Thoughts?

one button black is nice for the wedding but not sure if it would be trendy enough for going out at night type of trendy.
isnt one button more classic and three button more modern?

anyways, i wish i can get a TaT suit from the Crinkmaster one day, but i would have to shed half my body weight.
i think one of the requirements of TaT suits is that you need less than 3% body fat!

The black should be nice for the wedding. I think the one button is actually more modern with the 3 roll 2 being a bit more traditional. I am normally fairly traditional but for suits I prefer either 3 roll 2 or 2 buttons. I would buy a one button suit but possibly not a 3 button.

Be sure to post pics of the suit when you get it!

Are you trolling, diorshoe? MC consensus is that black is not appropriate for weddings or daytime wear. Go with charcoal. One-button is good for socializing, not good for business.

black is pretty useless unless you are attending a funeral, the opera, or a nightclub. your first suit should be grey. the number of buttons is a matter of preference.

I plan on eventually getting a black suit. First on my list was khaki, =] second might be either a charcoal gray or navy (solid, never pinstripe). And maybe down the line I might get black. I don't need any of these any time soon and would rather load up on nice dress shoes for now, and might look more into suits as I need them (questionable as I will be in law enforcement). However, dress shoes, I can't get enough of.

Not planning on making detective?

(I'd make a joke about ill-fitting suits here, but some other thread claimed that many detectives in major cities dress quite well.)
