Lots of beautiful briefcases in this thread, especially that Ralph Lauren Purple Label a few pages back. I've only recently joined the ranks of briefcase carriers. Here is mine:
I have an identical one waiting for me when I visit Paris in a few months. Very excited after seeing your pics.

Excellent! You'll have to post pics. I didn't think to photograph the clochette, but yours will have one too. I think you'll be pleased. Though I worry about getting that first scratch, I use mine every work day and couldn't be happier with it.

I envy you your trip to Paris. If I were going, I would saunter over to Moynat. Their Limousine case, with gold trim in their signature pattern, is on my wish list.

I actually brought the thing almost two years ago and haven't been back to Paris because of a couple of cancelled trips. They don't ship suitcases (which that one is classed as) so it has been sitting there for me ever since.

Does anyone know of anyone besides BB that is currently offering a shell cordovan briefcase? Off-the-rack preferred, but would love to hear about custom makers too. I know Mitchell Leather will make you one that has shell trim, but they say on their website they won't do all-shell.

I'd have thought Simon (Casemaker) would be able to if he has a source of Shell. Its certainly worth asking him anyway

Exactly, that is what I am saying. We hear about the stuff then all of a sudden there are a million key fobs, wallets, bracelets, shoes, watch bands, briefcases. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of it out there was bullshit. I never said Cleverly was duping people. I just said there might be potential for a lot of fakes either on purpose or by accident. I think it is fishy.

I can't speak for other sources but my stuff comes from Cleverley. It's made in a shack not far from the wreck site.

I have certainly heard of items that contain *some* Metta Caterina leather simply being described as made from Metta Caterina leather. As always with something like that Caveat Emptor. A few years ago I had an interesting conversation with the guy with the salvage rights who certainly seems to imply a lot of product had been made using not much leather.....

I would be suspicious of any "Russian Leather" products at this point, except from Cleverley. They had purchased the last lots of salvaged leather when the salvager retired and recovery operations ceased. I am not sure how much stock Cleverly has of the stuff, but they produce all kinds of items with it, from belts and shoes to attache cases and gladstone bags.

I wouldn't go that far - I have some of the leather thats legit and I know Casemaker here has as well. You just need to know who you're dealing with and make sure they aren't being creative in their descriptions..
