What did you think? I picked up a flight of these (10, 15 and 16 year olds) about 7 or 8 months back, and really liked the 15 for the price (think it was in the $120 to $130 range). Haven't opened the 10 or 16 yet.
The interesting thing is I didn’t like it on first tasting. I bought it a couple years ago for like $60. It’s been just sitting, but for some reason I thought I would drink it that night. I have no idea why I didn’t like it before, it is absolutely delicious. Its sweet caramely taste, is somehow still spicy. The mouth feel is buttery smooth, caramel, vanilla, oak just very much to my liking, go figure.

I sometimes experience this also - stuff I open, think "meh" then put away to the back of my liquor cabinet - sometimes pops when I try it again later. I have had some Woodford Reserve barrel picks do this, and Noah's Mill, among others. Usually I know if something is gonna be for me or not, but nice when that happens. As FYI, your post got me interested in the brand again, and since I don't drink during the week, I checked out their website. They actually have all of their bottlings available for sale online (depends if your state allows spirits shipping maybe, I've never ordered spirits online so don't know how that all works) in case you were looking.

There's the "neck pour" phenomenon, which may or may not be a real thing. Regardless if it's real or not... I usually give a new bottle a taste, then wait a day or two to go back to it, before I relegate it to the back of the cabinet, or to mixer territory.... YMMV

Nope, I think I agree with you on this one, and tend to do same these days. Only bottle I have ever actually dumped, as opposed to mixer/bookend, was Old Tub. That stuff was just undrinkable, period.

So not sure how good the data point is, but recently read something from Fred Minnick about a blind tasting that put Calumet 16 year old in a tie with PVW 15 year old (can't find link to article but pretty sure that was it) which means given Minnick's following, Calumet 16 is about to become very hard to find
