For fun and for your info, why from now on pictures of my beloved Rannoch will show the sturdy Scotsman with a slightly darker skin:

Today a new pair arrived. I had bought the Rannoch slightly too big and now it is a perfect fit in UK 7.5. This new pair features the lovely red hue just the same, but the leather is a bit darker overall. It is not easy to show, but in the flesh both are a touch darker. The UK 8 pair I had seldom worn and then not much outdoors, it was stored in the shade and I hadn't applied any product for shoe care, so this is pretty much the difference out of the box.

Where did you buy the Rannoch from and were you hit with import tax (since I think you live in Germany?)

Also, what size do you wear in other (Cheaney lasts)? I wear UK 8 in most lasts, but need to size up to 8.5 for my Pennine boots (too short in the toe area otherwise).

I got both pairs from Cherry Tree Country Clothing , the code EXTRA10 worked last year as well as this time.
So it was net (without VAT):
GBP 287, which includes GBP 24 for shipping

It came with DPD and their hub is in the Netherlands and for whatever reason, they apply their 21 % VAT instead of 19 % for me in Germany.
DPD charged a total of EUR 78. Please not the different currencies.

I wear:
UK 7:
Tricker's 4444

UK 7.5
Tricker's 4497s
Crockett & Jones 325 + 335
Hoggs 12226 G

US 7.5 E and US 8 E
Alden Barrie, depending on the manufacturing tolerances. I have one pair, that is more generous 1/2 size lower than another pair.

335, 4497s and 12226 G I wear with thicker socks, 325 (and 335) with normal socks medium thick socks until winter get's cold. I feel the first 3 lasts are more generous, the 4497s and 12226 G the most so. The 12226 G is the most generous in the toe box.

My experience is, that the 4497s has the lowest instep, when laced I get a V-shape. 325, 335 and 11126 have the ends meet parallel.

EG from Michael Jondral

Initially thought this was Michael Jordan but glad I got it right. Really nice shop with an amazing collection of St. Crispin, which I may dip my toes into at some point.
