How does an accountant deal with ear wax? He works it out with a pencil.

Seriously, though, you can get over-the-counter remidies, at least in this country. For more severe cases syringing is required, which a nurse can do.

I hate ear wax and create a **** load of it. You have to get it before it develops use Debrox. DO NOT use cotton swabs unless you plan on firing your ear like a cannon. I go to an ENT every once in awhile and they have a tool and a vacuum like thing to get it out.

The best way is to have a doctor flush it out.

Q-tips. Just don't stick them deep into the canal (though you'll be tempted to).

I've read 1-2 items that say this is counter-productive, pushing the offending wax further into your ear, etc.

As noted above, Debrox tends to loosen things up and then you can use q-tips to clean. If it's really bad, consult an ENT.

I use IEM's (in Ear monitors) daily and once a month I use ear wax drops from the drug store to flush out any ear wax plugs that might have developed

If this is a chronic problem, get a turkey baster (seriously).

If it's a one-timer, go to a doc and they'll wash it out. They'll also check to make sure it's not an ear infection, which is worthwhile.

I wonder how good the Chinese ear candles work? Every time I stop by Hong Kong I am tempted to try, as they seem to be a standard thing you can get done at the spas.

Aside from that, the Japanese/Chinese wooden ear cleaners work pretty good. Basically they are like q-tips made of wood, and shaped for easy cleaning.

And samurai meticulously cleaned their ears; why else would the kogai be part of a good sword's fitttings...
