anyone share their Nelson Coat experience? Is it like the Drakes overcoats (which i really like) but the price point is just too high.. Thanks
I just received the Nelson Coat. Nice tweed fabric. Feels a spongy and it's very soft. I bought a size 52. I'm 182cm tall and 80kg so I'm afraid it's too big. I usually wear a size 50 but that one was already sold out. I already posted on the overcoat thread. I think the armholes are a bit too big on this size, so I'm contemplating on returning the item. I will show you a few pictures.

Picked up the Nelson coat in size 48 and 50. At first I thought the 48 felt better (I'm used to a closer fit) but I'm leaning towards going with size 50 after trying them on a couple of times. What do you guys think?

First six images (with grey box) are size 48.

Just my opinion, but I would really suggest you to go with size 50 instead. I went through this myself and actually upsized 2 sizes in the end - no regrets.

This type of raglan sleeved coat should have a generous fit and A shape. Size 48 looks too tight in the shoulders, the front looks very short for that type of coat - exposing your knees a lot. And the cut on the back with the T stitch at the end of it sits too high on your back as well. The proportions when these types of coats are too short or too tight look really, really off. I would even say to go for 52 instead to have a really roomy and flowy classic look to it, but if you're very used to slim things, at least 50 is so much better than 48.

I've had almost two years to sit on these and really think this through, went from size 50 in sand which I wore just 1-3 times (which NassimBandini bought from me) to altered size 56 in charcoal tweed (because 54 was sold out, to be honest). So for one-color fabric I would go altered 54 for sure, but heavier tweed allowed me to size up - now on that one already more wears and more compliments! Not to mention I feel better and comfier in it.

Again, that's just my opinion, of course. But I do strongly believe that size 48 proportions are very off with exposed knees and pocket placement looking on a slimmer fit - they look way better on a roomier one and it should be A shaped and *drape* on you. And these types of coats should not be anything near slim.
Krolbro see the above posts. I received size 48 of the same coat which is my regular size. I wish I had ordered a 50 because it'd have that drape/oomph. The model guy berg and berg used for the coats also has 48-50 listed as his size (on the model agency website) but they sized him up to the size 50 ćoat in the photos.

Your photos look good to me.

Thanks man, I'm glad you think it looks good. I've wanted a balmacaan for a long time so I really want to make the coat work for me. I'm gonna ponder for a few days whether the restrictiveness when reaching forwards is really that annoying or not and then decide what I will do with it.

I have both the Mod 3 and the Antonio in size 52 and the same issue: relatively big butt and small waist. Even though the fits are quite different, I find the Mod 3 fits better. If I remember correctly, the hips measure pretty much the same, however, the Antonio seems to have more fabric in the front and less in the back, compared to the Mod 3. And the Antonio does not have enough fabric in the back and the side seams to accommodate my back side. Unfortunately, the Antonio is pretty much unwearable for me.

I am not sure whether sizing is up an option for me, as I find the leg already quite wide.

Did you let out the waist on Mod 3? It's waist is smaller compared to Antonio in same size.

Also, does anyone know if Mod 3 "hips measurement" is taken with pleats open?

Thanks a lot. It's the same story for me with so many trousers. I guess berg and berg is yet another brand to cross out. Shame as I really liked the fabric and cut.

If it's an option for you, Suitsupply MTM is a good alternative, they have a "crotch" option that is very useful for this.

I think I let out the waist in my first Mod 3 trousers (SS 23) but not in my second (FW 23). Plus, I let out the seat in all trousers.

However, the difference in the waist measurements has also to with the fact that the Mod 3 has a significantly higher rise than the Antonio. So it's not really comparable.

From size guide, it seems that front rise of Antonio and Mod 3 is the same, is the difference in back rise?

good point. I just tried them on again: the Antonio's front sits at least 2 cm lower than the Mod 3.

Probably because of lower back rise and maybe less "crotch" space which makes you wear them lower.

Would you be able to measure the hips on Mod 3, with pleats closed? I would like to know if the hips measurement from size guide is with pleats closed or opened.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
