I went in for both the choco and the snuff. I've been debating about dropping one, and really don't have a place for these, but I think I'm going to go with both. Maybe I'll sell a pair once I get to eyeball them both and see how they fit what I wear, but I've got a sneaky suspicion that these may stick around...

^ yeah, the chocolate wasn't dark enough for me to get both. If the chocolate was like E.G./Enzo mocha or mink (the dark dark brown) then it would work

can anyone speak to the potential awkwardness of the toe puff on these guys? almost everything about these is perfect, but the toe puff just looks kind of... awkward... especially compared to the alden toe puff.

I know it's an unlined chukka, so it isn't exactly supposed to be the most formal shoe in the world, but for those of you that already have them, does the puff chill out after a while? Or is it at least less aggressive than the pictures show it to be?

Thanks!

Guys, if you haven't jumped on these, DO IT. I bought the snuff suede with the first group and I absolutely love mine. After 10-15 wears, they're incredibly comfortable and the suede looks great. This is definitely one of my favorites from AE.
Yep. I'm probably wearing mine too much. The reverse calf is buttery soft and looks great. I also have the snuff.

I'm in a for a pair in snuff. I normally wear a 12.5 in the 511 but I went down to 12.

This may not have been my brightest move but I do have a few pair of 12s that work for me on that last.

I just know I would be swimming in the 13s.

I wear 8.5D for 5-65 last and 9D for 1-511 last, but did better sizing 8.5D instead of 9D because it's unlined suede. If you're in between, I suggest sizing down.

Thank you - that makes me feel better about my decision.

I have some Alden boots in a similar color (Suede Conservation Boot Alden x Leather Soul) and every time time I wear them I get compliments (so far) but without speed laces getting in and out of them requires the dexterity of Houdini. These should give me most all of the advantages with none of the downside.

I have an old pair of Park Avenues in 10C that fit pretty well. Could anyone provide me with sizing advice for this chukka? I assume my best options are the 9.5D or the 10B? My concern would be that the B is too narrow. Thank you.

Either 10.5B or 9.5D. General sizing rule with widths is if you go down a width, size up half. Go up a width, size down half.

This is assuming your 10C is a perfect fit. My Brannock is 10.5B, so in standard width shoes I'm usually a 9.5D. Never actually tried a 10C. For larger fitting lasts (high high instep etc) I might size down half (eg UK 8.0 on Enzo Bonafe 946).

Edit. Just realized I answered the same question on the Massdrop thread asked by a user with the same username. Hi again :)

Hi @Elessar thank you for your help on both formats. I think we're a similar size. This is helpful information, and I went with 9.5D, which I think should work well.

Apologies guys, I came across this thread late, and the second drop has just closed.

In case Mass Drop goes round again with these, I'm cross posting my comment to their discussion thread. Might be helpful to someone here in future...

I bought these in Sand first time this drop happened a few months ago, and was really, really delighted with them. I just ordered the Chocolate in the second drop. I thought it might be helpful to share my experience with sizing vs. other Allen Edmonds lasts, and also the suede these are made from.

Suede: In Massdrop's description the "upper is notably soft and pliable" and that really is very much the case. It is gorgeous suede, a real delight, but almost floppy. My impression is that this is how higher end unlined suede chukkas are supposed to be. However, as Dappered.com mentioned today, these do not feel like rugged shoes. The sole and heel are pretty substantial in a dress shoe kind of way, but the upper is kind of light weight, although obviously a huge step up in quality from what you'd find in a pair of regular suede shoes you'd find in the mall, or even Allen Edmonds own Gobi Chukkas.

Sizing: I have a wide foot, so in the 65 last I take an 8 EEE (slightly too snug) or 8.5 EEE (comfortable out of the box) - for example Fifth Avenue Cap Toe Oxfords and McAllister Wingtip. I also have the 8.5 EEE in the 108 last (Lasalle Split Toe Oxford). In these Chukkas with the 511 last I went for the 8.5 EEE and the fit is perfect.
