Different suppliers I guess. I will say that I have a double oil sole on my AE McTavish and after 200 wears on NYC pavement it's still in good shape...

Over 4 years, mind you. Still, it's my go to rainy day and around the neighborhood shoe. The grey distressed nubuck looks better the more it gets beaten up.

It looks like the AE brown suede belt I bought will match the chocolate pretty well. I bought it in case it matched Alden Choco Tankers I was getting. It's a 42 if someone would like it for cheap. If I jump in on the next run it will be snuff.

The shoes arrived today. I purchased the brown and the tan, and both are fantastic colors. The shape is sleeker than the Barrie but a little less pointy than the Aberdeen; juuuuuuuust right. Now I have something to pair with my safari jackets and sport coats, flannels and jeans.

I received mine in chocolate last week.

The advice to go with brannock size was spot on. I wear a 9E in 65 balmorals, but brannock at 9.5D. These chukkas in 9.5D fit like an extremely comfortable slipper.

The quarters on the left boot are uneven, so the eyelets are misaligned, which is a bit of a bummer. I'm guessing there's no option for an exchange on these.

Any loose stitching on the heel counter? My chocolate pair has a small spot of loose stitching there. Just one boot. I've not decided what to do w' them yet. I too suspect there's no exchange option.

The stitching seems fine on mine. It's the top of the inside quarter on the left that is about a 1/4" too long, leading to the misalignment.

I heard back from Massdrop and I guess AE:

Thank you for contacting Massdrop support. I can certainly understand the concern with the eyelet not being fully aligned. This particular issue is not considered to be a defect by the manufacturer. Because of this, we would be unable to do an exchange (as we would have to source the replacement from the manufacturer) and we be unable to issue a refund as all sales are final.

I apologize for any inconvenience.

So that answers that.

Interesting that "making the shoes incorrectly" isn't considered a "manufacturing defect"...

Are we supposed to put shoe trees in these? Also is it recommended to spray these boots with waterproofing spray?

I think shoe trees have benefits for any leather shoe, so yes. Just don't over-size your trees - you don't need a bunch of tension at the heel. None is better than too much.

Is it recommended to spray these boots with waterproofing spray?
Be careful not to use a silicone-based spray. The Terrago Nano spray and Saphir Invulner are both good for suede and work well.
