I ordered walnut Strands and a walnut AE manistee belt from Nordstrom.  They don't match in color - the belt is significantly darker than the shoes.

Is this to be expected?  I can upload a picture if necessary, but if someone can tell me whether it's common or unheard of that should be enough.

It is quite common. If you were to exchange it you could either end up with one closer in colour or even further apart.

My view mentioned last time it came up was that I prefer them to not match exactly and having the belt darker allows it to work with other shoes as well.

I have that same combo and yes my belt is also darker but not so much so that I wouldn't pair them. I actually like the slight variation in color.

Just won a pair on ebay that I actually don't know the model of. I figured this would be the best place to find out since search didn't help.

The auction said Park Avenue, but it's a beautiful plain-toe balmoral instead of a cap-toe, so I'm pretty sure it's something else. Or maybe it's an old version of the Park Avenue? Here's the picture, and any insight would be appreciated!

Edit: Link to auction with more pictures if it would help: http://www.ebay.com/itm/ALLEN-EDMON...-Dress-Shoes-SZ-8-5D-NEVER-WORN-/321185963378

It's been referenced a couple dozen times in this thread over the last few years. You're right, it does come in very handy. It's fun to see for instance that the 1950s Park Avenue was a blucher, or to peruse all the fashionable abominations they came up with in the late '70s.

well... i'm a relatively new member so thanks for bringing me up to speed! I think some of the shoes they came up with in the 70's are extraordinary... The catalog pictures of the 70's are head and shoulders above the computer generated pictures on today's website.

Does the Brooks brothers McAllister fit the same as the AE version? 5 last compared to 5 last?

I know there is a difference between poron and cork. Not sure if that makes a difference in fit?

Consider this: many people report their walnut Strands darken over time with wear and polishing. Your belt is likely made of "polished cobbler" and will probably hold its color. Thus, their colors may grow closer over time.

By the way, between my Strands, pebble grain Macneils, and Ravello shell, my walnut AE belt probably gets more use than any other I have. A year old and it looks great.

So I just got a call from jville saying there was a mistake, that they're $199 and they want to change the price.

I just got an email saying the same thing: (still some good deals here)

There was an error in pricing earlier with the Strand at $129, the price in fact is $199. Orders that have already been placed will be honored at the $129 price.

The Brooks versions of the AE shoes have the same fit as far as I am concerned. However, my sample size is limited to the Neumoks and the McTavishes that I got from the Shoebank in both "editions". The only difference, besides of what you said, is the Tap rubber outsole.

Is this sale at all AE Outlets? I can just pick one and call or email them?
Yes, as said above, they all share the same system. Often times, I would get my order shipped from a random location, although I placed it at Shoebank in Port Washington.

I have an AE strand and a BB strand, and in my opinion, the BB strand fits a touch more snug. Not really length or width, but overall volume. Feels like the poron insole is a little bit bigger/thicker than the AE leather insole, moving the foot up a touch (towards the vamp) and gives a more form fit. I have 13D in both and both are very wearable. Its not a massive difference. Personally, I much prefer the fit and comfort of the BB version, and saving $50 or more is just an added bonus. (which translates to more AE shoes down the road....)

Hopefully that helps a touch

Does anyone have the Hancock in the 7 last? I've been trying to get actual action shots of this model over the web but have ended empty handed. So if somebody owns this and wouldn't mind posting the shoes in action, that would be great. Top and side please.

Thanks!

Could any one please let me know how the fit of the 8(108) last compares to the 5(65) last. I already have the PAs and Strands, and am thinking of getting a blucher -- the Delrays.

I fit comfortably in an 11D on the 5-last, and I was wondering if I should make any change in my measurements for the 8 last. Fitting at a store is not really an option right now. Thanks!

Well... It's definitely not the Park Avenue. I can't name the name, but it looks to be from the 70's judging by the insole. Also, the leather looks to be corrected grain, which is not good. You could try and get a return on these.
