Have you ever tried opting for a four in hand?
Yeah, when I first started wearing ties a couple of decades back. Also, if certain ties that have a very thick knot, I may occasionally opt for 4IH. Otherwise, I usually opt for half Windsor because I like the symmetrical balance of this preferred knot.

Also try opting for less waist suppression. Classic mistake menswear noobs make (I made this mistake myself). You've got pulling at the button and your hips look wide. Not a good look.

Hober grenadines do make very thick knots though. Also, there is beauty in the slight asymmetry of the four-in-hand knot.

I agree. I think symmetrical knots only look good with cutaway collars. Even with wide-spread collars, I think 4IH look better. But, I realize people have different personal preferences.

I find that the four in hands start to twist during the day, which I find annoying, so I only wear them with knit ties or when I am using a pin collar to hold them in place. I do prefer the Pratt Shelby over the half-windsor, though. I find it generally provides a nicer knot and dimple.

My father used to do a Pratt knot. He taught me, but when I got to high school and was doing it myself, very infrequently, I couldn't remember, so I kind of stumbled into the four in hand. I remember he started backwards and then, blah, blah, blah, but I kept getting lost or tying it backwards, so when I flipped it around it worked great.

Dum dum question alert: are the ribboned cummerbunds (example linked for reference) intended to be knotted/tied at the back, or is there an obvious alternate choice I'm missing?

And, speaking of, if there's experience with either the ribbon or the clasp/slider backing, what are the group's thoughts?
