My Parents had a brand new 530i when it was new in 2005. WAY too many problems. My brother had a 328i too and it had problems too. BMW are out of the question for me.

You won't regret it. You just can't beat Honda for low-cost of maintainence and reliability

BMW makes a great car, but maintenance isn't cheap. And over time when things go wrong, the cost of repair can be astronomical. You just have to know this when making a purchase, especially if planning to keep it for a number of years.

This is such a great point Jay Jay. Buying used cars ain't like getting a suit from SFBS.

You might be able to afford the car at a used price, but it still comes with the full bespoke repair bills.

My parents had the 530i and my sister had an A4. They sold the 530i before the warranty ended because my sister had HUGE repair bills RIGHT AFTER the warranty ended. They were repairs that they didnt "find" when she still had some warranty left.

Although long-term maintenance cost can be higher for BMW, MB, Porsche and the like, I wouldn't trade the thrills they provide for some of the other makes. My Japanese made vehicle is a steady workhorse that never has had a problem over several years, but my daily driver and go-to vehicles are German. Yes, they have their quirks and higher running cost over the long-term, but I try to budget accordingly.

Agree, the 530i was a really nice ride. But I guess it depends on what you want to achieve. Personally, I could put up with taking it int the shop and stuff in exchange for the ride but my father on the other hand has been a loyal Lexus fan ever since.
