Hey oaw, I'm in Thailand right now studying Muay Thai; though that's for another time. The tailors are very honest, hardworking guys with exceptional quality standards imo. I really do recommend 'em. I'll be here a little while longer so if you'd like me to ask them any questions for you I'd be happy to. (like shipping questions, or whatever)

How's the quality of the dress shirts? ie.

Is there a sheen on the cotton
Is the material thick or thin
Is the stitching clean

etc..

thanks

Glad you are enjoying yourself in Thailand, especially now that the political crisis has somehwat abated. However, I am not so sure your opinions of the tailors as honest and hardworking guys with exceptional standards will still stand at the end of your stay.

Most of the so called tailors are really just salespeople who are dishonest touts. The real artisans are the local thais whom they pay very little to do shitload of work. However, if you are currently happy with their work, it could really be a blessing NOT to learn more about their craftsmanship or the construction of finer suits, as well as the dirty tricks of the trade these "salespeople" practise.

haha, I can't tell how the suit looks... you need some more of the entire suit/pants/shoes with decent posture.

Damn, sorry this reply took so long, image resizing problems. I had 3 good pictures but taking forever to fix. Sheen, yea; real nice too. Material feels thick to me. I don't really have a whole lot to compare it with but a nice dress shirt ready made back in the states, and it feels even a little thicker than that. Stitching looks nice. I'm not expert or anything, but I have seen 1 thread out on all my shirts sticking out, which was easily remedied. Here's some pics so you can judge for yourself. PS: Can anyone tell me the proper way to wash my dress shirts here? I've pretty much gotta trust the locals for laundry service. Will just sending em through the washing machine do a whole lot? I've seen people mention hand washing, what's the standard for this? I've thought about just using my shower to kinda do it. I know better than to send my suits through anything but dry cleaning sparingly though.

Yea, there was another smaller political crisis in Kamala the other day, someone hacked some guys arms with a machete. The attacker was the son of a prominent police man, who in turn got bailed out the next day. The entire town blocked the roads of anyone going in and out, and held a protest right in the middle. They wanted the police chief to step down; I'm not sure if he did or not but the issue got resolved I guess. Stuff like this is relatively rare here however. As far as the tailors, ya I actually did meet the "head" tailor I guess, who was Thai. The main reason the Thais don't run their own shops (or at least rarely do) is because their English skills aren't the best. I'm sure the garments are run mostly in sweat shops. I've seen reports of of piece work seamstresses making about 16,000 THB a month which is actually very decent income here. More than the bar girls even. Ignorance is bliss however, accept the things you cannot change and all that jazz.

Are there/were there more photos?

To be perfectly honest, I cannot tell squat from the one photo.

Was the price paid really inclusive of cloth? If yes, I would be very skeptical that you received pure 100% super 180s wool. It is not at all uncommon for the lower-end Asian tailors to feature cloth that is mostly polyester at that price point.

Thanks for the info. Damn, that looks good. I think $30 is worth the risk. Hell, maybe jantzen will get some competition from this thai maker.

How the hell can you tell the quality of the shirts from those pictures?

This thread is just too much for me...

In a way I can't wait to see a real picture of the suit.

I cant tell much from your picture.
You need to take critique of your pictures etc with some more class, kindly dont jump of the deep end into abuse, that speaks volumes about you....much more so than any suit ever will.

Regards.

I would want to know how the weight of the fabric holds up to a spinning back kick. Also, did you ask for a roped or natural shoulder? I think the roped shoulder would hold up much better to an arm bar takedown.

Also, did you get the silk thread? It will hold up much better than standard thread (when the seams are stressed by body slams).

He got it from Big Boss Fashions. You know that's quality right there!

Kind of like the "love you long time" massage parlor in Bangkok. No happy endings there. All 'top notch massage.'

Can't tell an awful lot from the pics, but to be fair it looks pretty decent considering it only cost $180. The tie knot looks pretty awful but that's not exactly the point of the thread...

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
