The Official Thrift / Discount Store Bragging Thread Part III (Sept 2018-)

Is this real or fake. Looks off to me, but I haven’t seen a ton of Hermes.

The Official Thrift / Discount Store Bragging Thread Part III (Sept 2018-)

I agree, I'd be the same. Sadly, I don't expect to see any more $500+ cameras in my neck of the woods. GW has taken out their glass cases, and anything that used to be worth putting in there seems to go straight to the internet. I don't like cutting out the middle man when I am the middle man.

The Official Thrift / Discount Store Bragging Thread Part III (Sept 2018-)

For scratches, or for other internal issues (like fungus or excessive dust) you can shine a small flashlight up through the lens from either end. It should make most of those issues very apparent. Be sure to check both directions. This assumes that we're talking about removable lenses for...

Buying and Selling on eBay: Tips, Tricks, Problems & Questions

One for the block list. He claimed the part I sold him was defective (this is the “developed a crack” guy for anybody who remembers), and I finally got the return today. It is definitely not the same part I sold, and I’ve uploaded the pictures to eBay, and should eventually get my money back...

Buying and Selling on eBay: Tips, Tricks, Problems & Questions

I hate when people don't care enough to preserve what's there. Even if you can't make it work, someone else probably can. On another note, why is it that we (some of us) post images of ebay names instead of text? Is the thought that they might find reference to themselves here and ...

Buying and Selling on eBay: Tips, Tricks, Problems & Questions

Sheesh, what the ...? I'm not a lousy seller, at least I never have been up to now, but I'm suddenly getting return requests on half my sales. (Granted, I've put ebay on the back burner, so my sales have slowed down.) The part that I posted about a page or two back is in return limbo (I created...

Buying and Selling on eBay: Tips, Tricks, Problems & Questions

Just got off the phone with ebay. The rep I talked to said he had his doubts about the return as well, and doesn't believe it is the same part. Weird though, he said he couldn't take action today because the return was just created yesterday. I am supposed to get a call back again on Tuesday, at...

Buying and Selling on eBay: Tips, Tricks, Problems & Questions

Yep. In the initial return request, he said it developed a leak. In sending the picture I posted, he said that he went through it and noticed a crack developed. I'll update with ebay's decision.

Buying and Selling on eBay: Tips, Tricks, Problems & Questions

I think I will call. He sent a picture of the crack, and to me, the cast in manufacturing date code (or whatever that is) doesn't look the same as the one in my listing. Wishful thinking on my part?

I guess "developed a crack" counts as NAD.

Buying and Selling on eBay: Tips, Tricks, Problems & Questions

Have we always had to refund shipping? I don’t get a lot of returns, and haven’t had one in a while, but I don’t remember getting my own shipping refunded when I’ve needed to return something. I had a buyer decide after almost a month that the item he bought (not clothes) doesn’t work correctly.

That would at least explain why they were minty.

Buying and Selling on eBay: Tips, Tricks, Problems & Questions

Every single time. Actually, FB marketplace is the worst for this for me. On the rare occasion someone actually has read the description I almost want to just give them the item for free out of gratitude. That looks awfully like feedback extortion to me. You should be able to get rid of it...

Buying and Selling on eBay: Tips, Tricks, Problems & Questions

eBay shipping question. I have a buyer in Canada (I’m US) who bought two items, and would like them shipped together. Already paid. One says it’s is supposed to be shipped GSP, the other is First Class International. I’m going to try calling eBay, but will they allow me to ship together since...

Vintage Dress shoe appreciation, tips, maintenance and advice

If the price is right, I couldn't say anything against those. Condition the heck out of them, and then wear them in good health, for a good long while.

Vintage Dress shoe appreciation, tips, maintenance and advice

As the other guys have said, vintage J&M is great quality. I haven’t had the privilege of wearing a pair, but I’ve thrifted several in order to sell. She’ll quality seemed excellent, and the craftsmanship was at least as good as AE of the same era. They never seem to sell for nearly what a...

Thanks, I've seen plenty of the older Zegna tags, but never just this. I appreciate the confirmation.

And now I wonder if one of those cashmeres yesterday was actually a whiff. Can I request a reality check? Faking an unvented Zegna seems unlikely to me, but maybe once upon a time it seemed like a good idea. I’ve never seen a Zegna jacket without some kind of tag, but when I went looking for the...

The Official Thrift / Discount Store Bragging Thread Part III (Sept 2018-)

Small haul, but apparently today was Cashmere day for me. Vintage topcoat (looks like 70s based on union tag), and, I’ll just euphemistically say “vintage” sports coat. Neither really knocks the ball out of the park, but both should sell, and, cashmere in excellent shape. Kinda wish the top...

Buying and Selling on eBay: Tips, Tricks, Problems & Questions

I noticed the shipping complaints here and checked my own sales—indeed nothing has moved much since the first of December. A pair of shoes headed to Japan have made it the farthest: 18 miles to the USPS distribution center in only four days! Does anyone know if stuff is moving, just not getting...
