I'll look into the Hanger Project, thanks.

    Resoling

I have a related question: a bad cobbler convinced me to resole my Alden Indy boots and he butchered the job. Instead of redoing the 270 degree Goodyear welt it appears that he cemented the soles. The day I picked them up I walked down the street and they had already started coming apart. I took...

    Resoling

Another thought here is that the more shoes you have the fewer times you wear each in a year, and the fewer resolings. If you have ten pairs of AE shoes (not too crazy for some of us) then each of those pairs could last most of your career, getting resoled three or four times.

    2018 shoe revival challenge

I just bought deglazer and I am starting to try my hand at shoe revival. What is the difference between deglazer and nail polish remover? MW

    Custom tailor advice

When I was in the shop I described what I want, which is somewhat unusual. I want to emulate the style of the classic Hollywood greats: Astaire, Grant, Gable, Cooper, etc. This requires rather higher rise and plenty of room in the trousers, high armscyes, and other elements we discussed. He has...

    Custom tailor advice

I found a tailor in Philadelphia who makes a custom suit for $1300. He steers away from the term "bespoke" because he doesn't do a basted fitting. He says the reason he is able to do this is that he is both the fitter and the cutter, so when he does the first fitting he gets the information he...

Best M2M for drape cut/SR style

I don't necessarily mean drape cut as much as I mean English style. I do not want a sack suit or a Continental silhouette. I am sure this is correct, that the nature of drape requires a level of care that probably exceeds most M2Ms, if not all. Any suggestions on decent suit separates?

Best M2M for drape cut/SR style

This is good to know. Thank you. I think I am simply going to try extra hard to find something feasible from eBay, and if I get the job I will have the dough to go with Steed.

Best M2M for drape cut/SR style

I'm pretty sure that Steed is going to be outside of my price range. What is the low end there? I just did a consultation at Enzo's Custom. I was afraid that by "custom" they meant something like, "we have our style and you can't change it much but you can do peaked lapel or notch, and we have...

Best M2M for drape cut/SR style

I like a 14" rise, which is practically unheard of today, but IMO was one of the keys to the elegance of classic menswear. It's hard to find anything higher than 11 or 12" today because so many clothiers are gearing their models to young skinny guys who do not like pleats or high rises - what...

Best M2M for drape cut/SR style

Hey, since you're from Philly let me ask- have you been to Distante's on Sansom? Or Ernesto's?

Best M2M for drape cut/SR style

I want a M2M suit for $1000 or less in the drape cut style. I do not want slim fit or anything of the like. I live in Philadelphia and can travel to NYC or DC, but DC is easier. I am a slightly bigger fella, and like a lot of room in the trousers, and a rather high rise. I have a drape style...

It cost me $100! I think I agree as to how it looks like it was re-soled. I think I will get an opinion from another cobbler and then go back to the store and have them do it again.

From what I can see in this diagram, the cobbler should have sewn through the goodyear welt and through the sole itself.

Just got my Alden Indy's re-soled and within minutes one of the soles came undone. I know very little about shoe construction but I was wondering if anyone would comment on this problem. I will obviously be going back to the cobbler to tell him what happened, but could anyone tell me why these...

    Classic "high-rise" pants

Hi everyone, I have decided that the current fashion of low-cut, tight trousers is unbecoming and informal. I very much appreciate the old style of loose, high-rise trousers as seen in several attached photos. Not only do I think this is much more elegant and classy, but for those of us whose...

    Wedding Party attire

My party and I are wearing morning coats. My dad is my best man and he has a fox hunting outfit. The waistcoat from that outfit with work for the morning attire, but I was wondering if the coat would also work. It is black and has three buttons. Could it be considered a stroller and if it was...
