Vintage Dress shoe appreciation, tips, maintenance and advice

Quick update on this: I used some Renomat on the right toe cap and now all is back to normal. The shoe shines easily like before. It must have been some bad combination of shoe and wax polish that clogged up the pores. Still surprised that this could happen, but oh well.

Vintage Dress shoe appreciation, tips, maintenance and advice

I definitely have not applied any mink oil on my shoes. In the past it would shine just like the left toe cap. This issue only just started happening recently. The only possible thing I could think of is that I recently did purchase Saphir navy polish and navy wax polish and only used this on...

Vintage Dress shoe appreciation, tips, maintenance and advice

Cheers for the reply. No, it's not the dry spot I'm experiencing. It's the entire toe cap of my right shoe that simply won't shine no matter how much wax I use. But I think I'll try your suggestion and use some Renomat on the right toe cap to get rid of anything that's on the shoe. Then I'll...

Vintage Dress shoe appreciation, tips, maintenance and advice

Hi everyone. I originally posted this in the shoe care thread but was kindly referred to this threat instead. I would highly appreciate some help on this ongoing issue I've been having with one of my black pair of shoes. FYI, since posting this the other day, I have added a few more coats to the...

Thanks for getting back to me. Sure, I'll try that. Not sure where the thread is located on the forum but I'll try to search.

**The Official Shoe Care Thread: Tutorials, Photos, etc.**

Hey man, thanks for the reply. I checked the post you linked to, but it just seems to be about the mirror shine, which is not at all related to the issue I posted about...

**The Official Shoe Care Thread: Tutorials, Photos, etc.**

Hi guys, I have a question about an uneven shine on my shoes. I was trying to give the toe cap on one of my black pair of shoes a bit of a shine, so I gave both shoes a few coats of Saphir Medaille D'or neutral wax polish. After a few coats, the left shoe started shining more already, but the...

What caused my bespoke suit to fit differently?

Gaining weight unevenly is an interesting concept. Hadn't thought about that. Thanks for the link to the thread! I had no idea there was a thread like that on here. Will check it out.

Yes, that's what I was trying to say.

What caused my bespoke suit to fit differently?

Hi guys, I haven't posted a thread here in quite a while, but this topic warranted it. Here's the backstory: I had my very first bespoke suit made back in 2019 here in Japan where I live. It's been an absolute pleasure wearing something that is made to fit me so closely. This week, after a 6...

    Laundering Shirts

FWIW, I live in Japan, and the water here is usually always cold. I usually wash my shirts after every wear, but I always turn them inside out and ALWAYS use a washing net. I have yet to have any shirts that are showing signs of falling apart, even if I've owned some shirts for nearly 5 years...

best way to remove pit stains and collar yellowing?

Yup, I can attest that OxiClean is the better option. I started using it earlier this year for the first time, and it did wonders to some of my old dress shirts which I thought were done for. In one cleaning session, it removed almost all of the old pit stains that had been on my shirts over the...

How often to polish and condition shoes?

Yeah I agree it's easier to reshine them once the base layer is already on there. But back last year when I had nearly every pair of shoes mirror shined, I saw cracks starting to form on the toe over time, and no amount of extra coats could get rid of that. So I ended up having to strip the...

How often to polish and condition shoes?

Interesting about the mirror shine. I was pretty much in the same boat as you. That is, I insisted each pair of shoes required a proper mirror shine, which obviously took time, but was incredibly enjoyable to create. But, after using Renomat during a yearly maintenance session and accidentally...

How often to polish and condition shoes?

Thanks for clarifying. I do enjoy mirror shining my shoes every now and again, but in terms providing basic care for them like conditioning or shining, I don't really want to be doing it more than necessary. I posted here because it came up in the search results, and I thought I'd revive this...

How often to polish and condition shoes?

Well, I must say this is pretty remarkable. I'm guessing you are on one extreme of the spectrum while others who overpolish would be on the other extreme. At least for me, back when I wore my shoes on a weekly rotation, they would get enough scuff marks requiring me to polish them up towards the...

How often to polish and condition shoes?

Wow, that sounds pretty unbelievable. How many pairs do you own, and how often do you wear them?

How often to polish and condition shoes?

I would like to revive this thread as I wanted to ask some advice on my current shoe shine routine during covid. So pre-covid, I was wearing suits to the office from Mondays to Fridays, except for casual Fridays once a month. I have about 3 to 4 pairs of shoes in my rotation that would get...
