The Watch Appreciation Thread - Part two (Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Jaeger LeCoultre,

mimo - I appreciate the welcome. I suppose over the years it's become a question of how to spend my time. Having to read the strident (but repetitive and predictable) views of those like MrTewkesbury whether here or in the tailoring threads simply kill my enjoyment for this funny little hobby...

The Watch Appreciation Thread - Part two (Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Jaeger LeCoultre,

Nothing against you personally MrTewkesbury but part of the reason I've stopped visiting this thread and some of the others on this forum is the sheer repetitiveness of some of these arguments rolled out by members new and old. The points you have made have been repeated ad nauseam for years...

Well exactly - part of the charm for me is the off-cantered small seconds.

This is what surprised me - I'd always been a bigger fan of the Langes when considering a simple dress watch and this one hadn't been on my radar. Something just seemed right when I tried it on... I really like the newer, thinner version (7147). Will have to look for that one next!

The Watch Appreciation Thread - Part two (Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Jaeger LeCoultre,

So when I picked my PAM this weekend I had a chance to kick a few tyres, and tried on a couple of watches which I've long admired - the Moser Perpetual with fume dial, Grand Lange 1, and the Saxonia. Just for fun, I also took a look at the simple Breguet which I've posted below. I was...

Navy would contrast nicely with that creamy dial. What about the ostrich he carries? I quite like the texture of the grain. Alternatively, a deep green might work well (British racing green?). The bridle leather he has in green is quite dark, so isn't as flamboyant and could pass as black in low...

What's your budget? I'm UK/Europe based and have used a number of independent strapmakers here, I like Equus Leather and Camille Fournet, but they tend to make slightly pricier straps...

The Watch Appreciation Thread - Part two (Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Jaeger LeCoultre,

I think the cost-value discussion is all fine and good in a kind of abstract sense, but ultimately it all boils down to what you personally are willing to spend your money on, and what you - as an individual - think is subjectively good value. Similar discussions go on elsewhere on the forum...

The Watch Appreciation Thread - Part two (Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Jaeger LeCoultre,

Thanks! Horses for courses I suppose. I chose those specific variants of the Royal Oak and Grande Reverso precisely because of their dual time zone complications. While for the Daytona, I wouldn't sell it for the world (though might consider a trade for the cerachrom bezel version). To me, the...

Hello folks - I haven't posted here or on Styleforum for a few years now, but just wanted to share photos of my latest acquisition: And for the newer members of this thread, the gratuitous family photo: ...Looks like I may need to get a new watch box! Edit: More deets on the PAM. It's the...

@Dino944 I understand your point re: preferring the cleaner, 2-hand, manually-wound version of the Toledo compared to the current 3-hand automatic. I think I would prefer a cleaner-dialled version, too. I suppose, having had one of these on the wrist, that I didn't have the strong negative...

@mimo: The Toledo has a solid case back; the photo was taken with the case back open. I posted the pic mostly to show the lovely workmanship & finishing on the movement. With a solid case back, I don't really mind the use of a round movement in a square case. With only a few exceptions (eg the...

Brax - I like that hunter's case back. The curved shape of the case and the onion crown are lovely. Almost makes me wonder if the watch (with the onion crown) would have been better as a hand-wound? But I digress...It's a great watch!
