    Good tailor in Vancouver?

I picked up my suit from Modernize a couple of weeks back. They finished cutting it some months ago but put on the wrong color buttons; replacing those took rather longer than I'd expect, but I also was too busy to go and pick it up for a long time in any case. I'm pretty happy with the final...

    Good tailor in Vancouver?

Had my second fitting at Modernize today (so, er, not recommended if you need your suit in two weeks :>) Coming along pretty well, Bill and I mostly agreed on the necessary changes which is always good. Still lots of work to do on the jacket, I'll see how it looks at the next fitting. Pants were...

    The Hong Kong Tailors Thread

y'know, I'd be curious to know what Isolation's basic measurements - at least shoulders, waist and hips - are. From some of the pictures he sure seems to have a really odd body shape which is going to look a bit off no matter how good the tailor. well, that and/or a huge drop right shoulder...

    Friday Challenge 20140425: Yellow Fever

I saw a guy at the ballet last night wearing a sport coat with jeans and a yellow tie. Unfortunately couldn't manage to take a ninja phone picture and enter him for the last two challenges simultaneously, though :)

    Formal Waistcoat question

if it's just for one event, why not just wear a cummerbund? It's perfectly acceptable under 'the rules', and you won't have to worry about matching the fabric of your tuxedo or getting a correct fit, and it'll be easier to acquire and likely cheaper.

The Tailors' Thread: Fit Feedback and Alteration Suggestions

hey, that does explain absolutely everything that looked wrong to me but I couldn't quite see the reason for...that's why you're the tailor

The Tailors' Thread: Fit Feedback and Alteration Suggestions

Not a tailor, but that's pretty off in a lot of ways...there's a ton of elements about the jacket that combine in a way which is entirely at odds with your body shape. The narrow lapels, short jacket, high buttoning point, and very open collar just look horrible together, it's way out. Also...

HOF: What Are You Wearing Right Now - Part III

I like it a lot. The outfit would look too flat with a blue vest; it'd look OK without one at all, but the grey one definitely adds something, for me.

    The Hong Kong Tailors Thread

You can find lots and lots of pictures of Chan suits on SF, just do some searches for 'Chan' and you should find plenty.

The Tailors' Thread: Fit Feedback and Alteration Suggestions

sleeppotamus: not an expert, but looks to me like it might just need some pressing to make the rear vents sit at least better - looks like they're out of shape as much due to creasing as fit. also if you want the pants judged you need to wear socks and dress shoes, no-one can see if they're...

Tom Ford Tuxedo vs Dormeuil Ambassador Bespoke Tuxedo - which route is best?

blackhood: IIRC, the hierarchical quality suit list thread says Ermenegildo Zegna stuff is fully-canvassed and good quality (typical $2-3k Euro style stuff). It's the Z Zegna line that's half-canvassed and mediocre. dapper: 'bespoke' is kind of a...loaded term, and there are some different...

Wait...are you telling me advertising is sometimes not an absolutely clear and unbiased representation of reality?!

HOF: What Are You Wearing Right Now - Part III

would be better in the question & answer thread or something, but fancy dinner date is easy - best quality and fit white shirt you can find, and a nice conservative silk tie - traditional color like blue or (deep!) red, on the darker/more muted side of the spectrum, either a solid, a restrained...

    Samuelsohn MTM

Yeah, it's an FW13. I can't recall precisely when they went on sale, but it was a while back - maybe a month or two. Dunno about other stores, but the Vancouver one usually has quite a lot of stuff on clearance. At first they had the Samuelsohn, Coppley and Hugo Boss (for some reason) stuff on a...

HOF: What Are You Wearing Right Now - Part III

beneven: another thought...I'm on the lapel flower train, but I tend to think lapel flower / pocket square should be 'either/or', unless you're going to a wedding or really working a very vintage look. having both just tends to look busy and I'm not sure I've ever seen it done in such a way that...

Suit Alteration on Chest PLEASE HELP

You probably want to post in the tailors' thread: http://www.styleforum.net/t/265924/the-tailors-thread-fit-feedback-and-alteration-suggestions but it'd be good to get some better pics; your camera/phone camera app should have a timer function you can use. It may also depend if the jacket...

Sorry, wasn't asking for myself, just making a suggestion for the group buy.

Unfunded Liabilities: a/k/a The Cloth Thread

is there some kind of special not-immediately-obvious Tailor Magic involved in cutting rolls of cloth? because, you know, you'd think someone could rustle up a tape measure and a pair of scissors.

    Samuelsohn MTM

Yes. Just got a rather nice Performance for half price ($650 for a two-piece) from the Vancouver store this weekend, in fact. In for tailoring now. The Bay sells Samuelsohn mainline OTR (Harry Rosen doesn't, they have an 'exclusive' line made for them, both lines are equal in quality from what...
