I have to disagree on that. I prefer a leather sole over the R1. I find it much more comfortable.
It's a compromise for sure, but one I'm willing to take. I find it negligible, but I have this theory that the same rubber sole can be softer or harder (almost like a lottery) and I have no idea what drives the comfort.

It is more comfortable, but not in the snow and sleet in the winter time, when I mostly wear boots

It won't be a real scientific test, but I have another Shanklin lying around in the box, until I decide if I'll sell the Shanklin I'm currently wearing (different colors, I'm not that crazy, just a little bit).

Based on your feedback, I might give them a try, and hopefully, I'll discover that the sole of the other pair is more comfortable.

I have R1 on Shanklins and Piccadilly's and R2 (just has a leather midsole) on Galways. I think I'd happily get either on my next pair. I own a couple Galways on the HAF soles as well and like I said, leather is a touch more comfortable but it's negligble.

nice I'm looking to pick up some Banburys on the R1 so this is a very positive development

One more guys. Selling my once-worn Burgundy Dovers. Ebay listing has many pictures and additional details. SF price is $700 net to me but includes domestic shipping.

Ok, this one is a little weird so hears the backstory. I have two pair of Dovers and given my pending retirement, I likely don’t need any but I certainly don’t need two. Given my abundance of burgundy shoes, my shortage (for lack of a better word) of brown shoes, and the iconic nature of the Doak Dover, I didn’t give it any thought as to which pair I would list. Burgundy on 202. But the more I looked at the pictures the more I came to the realization that I may be keeping the Doak’s for the wrong reasons. That it seems as though I truly like the burgundy Dovers a little better. After tossing and turning for a day I decided to do what every mature adult would do when faced with such a decision. Avoid it. As such, I have raised the price on the burgundy dovers a little but also listed the Doak’s. Whichever one sells first goes, at least for the evening but honestly, I’ll likely take burgundy ones off the market.

So it is with that preamble that I am listing my Doak Dovers on the bay. Very modest discount of $50 off of the opening price for SF’ers of $850 (not including the tree’s). Check out the listing for pic’s and DM if interested.
