Nah, nine's right- Gai-Jin is set in Japan, Tai-pan is set in Hong Kong.
King Rat is a little iffy, since it's a Japanese prison camp, but in Singapore.

Yeah, no direct sequel, and only two books that even have a Japanese focus.I mean I haven't read any of them, but none of them are a true sequel to Shogun...right?
**** you’re right. Sorry, @Numbernine.Nah, nine's right- Gai-Jin is set in Japan, Tai-pan is set in Hong Kong.

I'm certain weirdness is coming. I'm caught up and they haven't laid the full reveal on us yet but I have a sense I know where it's going (no spoilers but it's not about the case Sugar is working.) If it goes there I'm out. Plus, we're at episode 5/8 so that leaves 3 more episodes this season for them to resolve (or not) what they're hinting at and then it'll be a year or two before there's another season to flesh it out.I watched the first episode of Sugar (Apple TV)
Colin Farrell gets his turn at the Apple money as a private eye in Los Angeles.
Interesting vibe--I suspect this one's gonna get weird (but hopefully in a good way).

Plus, it pisses me off the episodes are only half an hour and they drip it out once weekly. I'm at the point where I'm convinced short-form 'serial' shows, especially ones with limited episodes (not the same as a 'limited series'-- I mean 8-10 versus traditional 22 or so) should be dropped at once for bingeability. If only I had the discipline to wait....
I just finished it a couple of days ago, also as someone who never played the game. I enjoyed it a lot, and the ending was a solid payoff and set up for the already confirmed season 2.Decided to watch Fall Out after some recommendations. Never played the game but the show is interesting enough. 2 episodes in and I think it is only 6 total so it should be a quick watch.
I really enjoyed all the Asian women. I didn't really like the way the Blackthorne actor spoke. It was too over the top.Did any of y'all have issues getting into Shogun? I'm 3 episodes in and I'm extraordinarily ambivalent about it, which is frustrating because I WANT to love it. Not a fan of the Blackthorne actor in any way whatsoever thus far
Same, seen Shogun one episode/week and really liked it. Didn’t mind Jarvis much because finally on the contrary to the first series he isn’t the principal character (imo). Seen him before in Peaky Blinders I think, he hadn’t made an unforgettable impression. Both of these will probably be minority opinions:
I liked Shogun a lot all the way through (not binging, one episode at a time). And I liked Cosmo Jarvis too, especially his diction - very Richard Burton like, which I think was perfect for a period piece.
As for Ripley, I re-watched The Talented Mr Ripley and it didn't hold up as well as I remembered it. So to my surprise I feel the (great) tv-series was better than the movie.
