I have been at the end of the road for awhile, as the pandemic emphasized to me how much clothing I actually own. Plus, my kitchen isn't renovating itself.

I actually am that old, although people who don't know my age have guessed anywhere from 28 to 35. Asian genes (and no kids) FTW.

Not having kids was basically how I was able to afford all of this crap and hit the end of my sartorial road......

more srsly, for true heads the chase never ends, because we will always be empty inside chasing the chimerical kop that will somehow magically make us whole. Less quest for the holy grail and more Calvino's Count of Monte Cristo.

Probably never but I wonder how much nice tailoring I’ll actually wear once retired? I’ve covered most of the bases in both CM and casual and likely won’t need much unless I blimp out.

The main purpose of nice tailoring is not to wear. It is to model for your Styleforum e-buddies.

i'm pretty much at the end of the road, very rarely getting new pieces. if i buy new stuff, it's usually some casual wear as i have plenty of tailored clothing to wear.

on the other hand, if something i enjoyed very much wears out and cannot be repaired, i'll look for a replacement.

I've probably shopped the way most of us have. Staples like Navy and Gray suits, white and light blue dress shirts, black oxfords come first. Then branch out into plaids, pinstripes, houndstooth and such followed by seasonal fabrics. Do that long enough enough and you end up with four of everything.

Navy blazer/sport coat? Hopsack for summer, worsted for three season, DB for when feeling adventurous, lighter blue for the same reason.

It's absolutely great but once I retire I think a lot of it just has to go (after lawyer son gets his pick).

We are taking trips to Pitti Uomo once you retire. We are getting use out of our clothes dammit!!!

At some point I'll figure out how the discussion got to Japanese imperial propaganda but for now I'll say my sartorial journey has broadened a bit. From my late 20s-30s, I was focused almost exclusively on tailoring, moving from the post-recession flash sale sites to eBay in an attempt to fill a necessity of a daily suit and tie wardrobe. But it was all haphazard, just based on what was available and in my size. More recently I've been switching out some of those purchases with mtm in more deliberately chosen fabrics. I'm still in a suit most days and will be for the foreseeable future, but I've finally started to pay more attention to my weekend clothes, which had previously just been an afterthought.
I think buying new clothes still brings me joy. The stuff I buy now is definitely more expensive than what I was getting 10 years ago so I really try not to go nuts (I'm also limited by the space available in a DC apartment). Long story short, clothes are fun.
