Giving this neglected, new-to-me pair of Gridirons another go. If there were ever a time outside of football season to really wear these with purpose, it's when it's NFL draft day and your favorite team is picking first overall for the first time in over 75 years. While that first pick seems to be a foregone conclusion at this point, I'm very interested in what will happen with their 2nd top-10 pick in this draft.

The Gridiron was released, what, about 10 years ago? I'd have to go back and check. In any case, I'm pretty sure these hadn't seen a lick of conditioning in all that time. I probably should have invested in some higher-end conditioners, but since I've got a ton of Bick 4 kicking around, that's what it keeps getting. I'm probably on about round Bick 24 of conditioning with these, and it keeps getting a touch better. There are still some existing creases that could use more focused attention to address the dryness. And, the obvious tiger striping on the right shoe will need a plan at some point. All in all, for not being boots or a MacNeil, I really like these and can see them getting plenty of fall wear.

It's typically joggers and trainers on Fridays as I rarely leave the house, outside of kiddo dropoff or running the dog.

Had to swing by campus for a quick pitstop which means I finally get to participate in @donkeyhoatie 's Freeport Friday! Went with the best AE value since the $250 CXL HM (firsts).

Oh, is that what day it is?

Yeah, I'm in total agreement that the Freeport on clearance for moooooooonnnnnnnnnnths was AEs best bargain since they dropped the HM to $250 for a bit when they first came out. Both of those boots have punched way above their price point.

Ok, been in and out of airports for 3 days trying to get around the weather in Dallas. I just gave up and flew back to Chicago so I can fly to Guadalajara. I ran out of shoe combinations.

When AE launched the Custom Shoe Shop on their website, I thought my first foray turned out rather well:

After they added additional models to the custom options I was per-sueded to roll the dice again, this time with specs in colors I had never seen IRL (tobacco and polo brown). The resulting pair arrived today:

So far, they’re 2 for 2 in my book. (Note: without direct sunlight, the Polo brown looks much darker than snuff, it's closer to the chocolate suede of years past).

The 3D visualizer tool on their site is fantastic—you can play shoe designer to your heart’s content without spending a penny.

I realize the custom models are still limited and pricier than stock makeups, with no sale discounts. Still, given they’re offering so many of the customization options that we’ve been clamoring for over the years, I’m surprised to see so few posted here.

AE are still in a low-key soft launch with this initiative, but I doubt they’ll add more models unless they get some custom-ers. Weasels, that's your cue...

I love the black suede with brown accents. It reminds me of my black suede Achesons.

On foot today is my most recent pickup. An accidental eBay purchase of these red Neumoks.

Might be some lingering rain today, so I figured it can't hurt to put on the waxed suede. Plus, after going mattress shopping last week, Mrs. Donkey and I are going mattress buying tonight and these should let my wallet's tears go running onto the ground.

I’m glad my black linen short-sleeve shirt arrived in time for today with temperatures hitting 90. My OCD created a day-based color-coded system to ensure I don’t wear the same shirt twice in a row. Because Mondays require black or gray, it can be hard to find a good darker shirt in the summers. Linen is the perfect material for a casual workplace, and black linen is perfect. In case you are curious, blue is for Tuesday (Bluesday), and red is for Wednesday (Rednesday). Thursday can be anything except red, and Friday is a free day (freeday) to wear any color, as nobody cared generally that day to notice much. Green is best as a substitute for blue. I almost never wear white, but beige can be worn on Tuesday or Thursday.

Today I featured Tinsel Ave shoes
