The “Wedge rubber sole” reminds me of soles on the cheap shoes we wore as penniless students. I hate the fact that they’ve scaled back the range of size 11.5 and the Hangrade range being diminished and frozen in aspic.

My new brown Isly scotch grain need zero break in. Have you noticed a difference in the break in between your old and new Islays? Or a difference in toe and heel cap stiffness and cap size? The Scotch grain Sandhurst needed quite some breaking in and for my feet and i think the 325 is a tad more comfortable (more room in the heel) then the 375 last but we get along just fine after the turbulent honeymoon weeks. It’s developing already a nice patina.

Not that im aware of. Lucky you, most of my C&J Scotch grain i had to break in. Except the Pembroke in dark brown Scotch grain and Coniston in black Scotch grain. The Coniston in tan where very stiff. Strange. My new brown Isly scotch grain need zero break in. Have you noticed a difference in the break in between your old and new Islays? I’ve tried a 2017 Pembroke in tan scotch and it was much stiffer than my Islay. But it had a super stiff toe cap too much stiffer than the one one the my 2023 produced IslayNot that im aware of. I think -correct me if im wrong- that by design the Islay and Pembroke don’t have a toe cap like the e.g. Coniston and Sandhurst.I’ve tried a 2017 Pembroke in tan scotch and it was much stiffer than my Islay. I mean the toe cap thick leather peace beneath the upper leather that gives structure.I think -correct me if im wrong- that by design the Islay and Pembroke don’t have a toe cap like the e.g. Coniston and Sandhurst.
It’s possible and likely that some batches of leather can be stiffer than others, its a natural product. Maybe that’s an explanation of the different feeling of the same model during the years, I don’t think that C&J changes the last or way of stitching.I mean the toe cap thick leather peace beneath the upper leather that gives structure.
Hmm… or maybe the specific individual at the factory that makes the boot. That is also a variable factor that can influence the feeling maybe? If he was drunk all weekend than he makes a different shoe on Monday than he was sober. For good or bad I don’t know hahaIt’s possible and likely that some batches of leather can be stiffer than others, its a natural product.
