Why not just get an RMW chealsea? You can get them in either rubber or leather sole for roughly the same price of a CT + resole and they are supposedly much better quality.

Only at Ben Silver's inflated prices. I just bought an RM Williams Comfort Craftsman (rubber sole) from www.bootsonline.com.au for $255, with delivery in about 5 days. Nungar pricing may be even cheaper, but check the RM Williams thread in the MC forum, as delivery times may be escalating.

Huh. That's not so bad. Though still about $100 away from being as great a deal as the CT chelseas, unfortunately.

Depends on whether you like the CT chelseas. I don't know if anyone has both and could compare for us? I have a feeling the RMW leather is better than mine.

Note that CT now has the WAXY brown chelsea boots and the plasticky bad black chelsea boots. They no longer offer the smooth brown leather model that I and a few others have.

The plastic black chelseas are gone. The black and brown are now the same model, same last, etc. The old ones are probably still in clearance.

I thought the old ones were the same as the waxy brown? What's the difference?

Also, I'm pretty sure RMW is better than CT/Loake, but at a $100 difference, CT's probably still a better deal.

The waxy brown, if I know what they mean, is a waxed leather that doesn't take polish. The 'sharp black' are the plastic ones.

Someone recently got the waxy ones and they looked good, esp. with jeans, FWIW.

Wait, they're waxed, so they don't take polish, which is made of wax? I don't follow (and that is why I'd assumed they were the same thing).

Huh. I'm kind of disappointed. I was thinking about ordering the chukkas, but I did want leather I could polish and antique myself. I mean, the waxy leather seems to look nice anyway, but ah well.
