This sucks. The sound of the chipping ice you heard was me, grunting it out while you sat cozy in your catbird seat waiting for the doorman to open the door. You spoiled city dwellers.

Interesting vote on my tie today - SF majority voted blue - the one respondent at That Other Website voted red - odd bifurcation, that.

As for photo times, the shot with folded shirt and accessories is done the night before, when I make all those intense sartorial decisions. The rest are done in the AM, just before I trot off to the office. Why ever do you ask?

As for catbird seat and doormen (and don't forget the porters out there, chipping away at the ice on the sidewalk) - yes, I am spoiled - so there!

Priss!

I ask about your pics because you are so happy in your shots. There is no smiling happening above my camera line in my pics. Trust me. You do seem like a morning person. I am NOT.

Greg, you've come a long way and I think you're settling into a style in which you look natural. Your posts are usually prefaced by an explanation of why you look bad, but you seldom do. Good work.

Just a quick question but I´m noticing it more often. Is wearing a coloured cuffling in the lapel button hole a sort of new trend? I´ve seen numerous pics and people wearing it so in the past weeks.

No, that's old. The new trend is in the sleeve button holes.

Anything else is probably a SC.

This made me scratch my head: I thought blazers typically are DB, navy/blue with patch pockets; buttons are often gold or silver.
On the other hand, SC would be somewhat more "rustic" with flap pockets (+1 extra flapped pocket for tickets) and traditionally SB.

Thoughts?

You purple h8trs out there can just keep it to yourselves. This is my first Drakes tie, and it garnered compliments at the rate of about 6 per hour yesterday. I may have gone too far with the socks, though. Are these argyles too casual for the rest of the ensemble?

Sorry, but I'm being frank and would hope for a response. I'm sure others might have other opinions (lately I'm seeing many advertisements for bespoke or upper-end clothing with the models showing tattoos under their beautiful clothing), and I'd like to hear them... Also, do you mind sharing the story of this tattoo? Why'd you get it? What's the significance?

Sart, no offense taken. And I can see how it might fit into a discussion about style. First off, to me, its a stereotyping issue. People see tats and think the worst, although with their popularity recently I'm a little surprised many people still think this way. When people learn I'm a teacher they seem particularly shocked, but I know lots of teachers without tattoos who I'd be horrified with if my children were ever in their classes, and I honestly feel I'm one of the good guys.

People may scoff at my rationale, but to me they are very spiritual, and religiously superstitious. Growing up Roman Catholic I garnered a very quick and strong distaste for any centralized religion and throughout my life felt myself more connected spiritually to many different aspects of many religions and cultures. So the dragon that's my biggest tattoo is for protection. When I was 17, I suffered a horrible compound fracture of my right forearm, and because of that, my life was saved. A few days after the cast was removed I was in a horrible car wreck, and my first instinct (at 17 it was not buckling a seat belt
ffffuuuu.gif
) was to put my broken arm behind my back to prevent myself from impacting it (I saw the crash coming). When we impacted, all of my body weight was on my left side, and sitting in the passenger seat I shot left and forward, instead of just going straight forward. Had I gone straight, I would have gone clear through the windshield and probably would have died (we hit a pole at about 45 mph). Instead, I just severely banged up my face (broken nose, orbital, maxillary sinus, cheekbone, and a bunch of stitches above my left eye). So the dragon is my protector. I don't want to **** up the thread with my tat stories, but I figured since you asked I could at least explain the big one. I have 7 others, if you'd like, pm me, and I'll tell you about their relevance, but they all have some sort of "deeper" meaning.

Noice! I like the snow and winter, but this one has been particularly brutal for me.

Cheers MC, I wasn't the only one in jacket and tie at the restaurant that night so I felt a little better.

Thank you, Moo. Still struggle with a visual disconnect between my closet and the real world. Defining My Style, perhaps? Posting forces me to take a more critical look at my choices (and their fit). Not sure how I went all those years with such ill-fitting attire.

No hate here. I like the splash of color over the more muted suit. Looks good.

It's finally not precipitating here in NYC, and it's cold enough for the slush to be frozen - a day without rubber overshoes - bliss

Layered for the cold, then . . .

Can't agree with this more, I always chuckle at the self-deprecation just before posting a realy visually pleasing fit.
