...and as a side note, I just had this SC totally reworked, after the last time I wore it and the fit was terrible. Improved? For reference, below is the "before" :

The tie is ruining the ensemble. Pretty good otherwise.

PS. off-topic, but if any UK members want some VERY cool casual outerwear, get to RL at Bicester and check out the funky Black Label leather jackets and super-soft brown leather patches/trim on black merino wool sweaters they have. Some really nice pieces; esp. the jacket (and it's a rare Small size!). Still a bit pricey, but about 60% off retail. I passed because I don't really need another jacket, but it's very, very cool.

I can't recall a less than perfect outfit from you in the recent months. Nonetheless, I'm not a big fan of this one. I think everything is a tad too big on you and doesn't flatter you at all. But, of course, the colors are excellent.

Yesterday night, very relaxed, meeting with a friend for a beer. Worst-dressed man at a casual sports bar or best-dressed man at a casual gay bar? You choose.

They are. Also, the PS seems a bit too similar to the tie, IMHO. A rare miss, however

My wife ran off with my tripod, so here's a very crummy flash photography shot of my new eyewear. I think the size and general shape suit my face well, but I'm not sure if these have a "cool" factor. Hmm.

This could be a great idea and I say go for it. I bought a used sewing machine for $50 a few months ago and have definitely saved far more than $50 doing alterations on my own (for which my wife thinks I am crazy). My advice would be to make sure that whatever you want to do, you have a garment to practice on. Also, look at the things you want to do on your own and decide that way what features you need on your machine... for example, I don't have any automatic setting that does invisible hems, so I still do my pants hems by hand-stitching anyway, which is fine, just more time consuming. Pants are pretty simple accross the board - waist, seat, inseam/outseam are not overly difficult. With some experimenting I am also becoming more comfortable taking in dress shirts along the side-seams/arms so that they are fitted without reverting to darts. Jackets are a bit trickier, but if you open up the lining along the bottom, you can see the back/side seams and darts inside and if you have a jacket to practice on you can do these alterations on your own as well (but I still wouldn't try anything too advanced). It just takes some experimentation and practice. If like me, you enjoy it, you'll probably have yet another expensive interest on your hands as soon you'll want a better machine, a serger, etc.

The (lack of) roll might be a stylistic choice, however with a 3-button-2 the entire underside of the top buttonhole is exposed, as opposed to only part of it with some roll going on. I would venture that that is beyond choice and just plain wrong, although I'm sure some will disagree

It's not a matter of opinion where someone can "agree" or "disagree." I don't know what this roll is called, but it's accepted and is, in fact, classic. You may not like it, but it is not the wearer's error in the roll, as what makes the jacket roll like that is the cut of the canvass. If the canvass is cut higher, it rolls higher, simple as that. Again, you're entitled to dislike it, but not to say that Ranger is wearing or pressing it wrong"”it's the jacket's construction. Interestingly, that is my favorite style. When I finally get my first custom suit, I plan on ordering exactly that cut: a total rollover, buttoning exactly like a 2 button, with the top button completely concealed by the right lapel and the buttonhole completely showing on the other side of the left lapel.

I don't know about too much plaid (everyone remember the RLPL advertisements wit the glenplaid suit, tie, and PS?), but I'd say that the total combination doesn't work. Personally, my instinct is that it's the shirt that's messing things up.

I love your style. But let me take a liberty here. I hope you don't mind, as you must know that tattoos are controversial and that some of us might not like them... That said, every time I see your outfits, I think how much better you'd look without the tattoo. I can't help it, but even if I see the nicest outfit ever, the tattoo will ruin the view. Sorry, but I'm being frank and would hope for a response. I'm sure others might have other opinions (lately I'm seeing many advertisements for bespoke or upper-end clothing with the models showing tattoos under their beautiful clothing), and I'd like to hear them... Also, do you mind sharing the story of this tattoo? Why'd you get it? What's the significance?

I just came back from the thrift shop, picked up my first blazer/sports coat(can somebody clarify the difference for me)while I was there for the price of a cup of Starbucks coffee.

I have very limited knowledge on fits. What should to be done? Shoulders okay? Size needs taken in? Chest okay? Waist too big?

Camera ran out of batter after I realize I forgot to tuck my shirt in .

IMHO tattoos are not up for critique on a men's clothing site.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
