Tailoring BBBF Suit Advice

Hey guys,

I recently purchased a BBBF pinstripe suit from Gilt. I am going to get it tailored, but am concerned with getting the sides suppressed. The lining of the jacket makes it very bulky looking untailored. The armholes are not the problem as it is pretty high, which I like. I would greatly appreciate some advice from anyone with experience with BBBF. Thanks guys! Would be more than happy to give more info if needed.

May I see some fits of BBBF suit owners?

Having the jacket taken in isn't a problem for a good tailor. The linings on BF suits don't seem bulky to me. Mine have been altered with great success.

Hmm, it's odd that the lining would make that much of a different. Is the outer cloth very thin and lightweight?

Yeha the cotton lining is relatively thick compared to the pinstripe fabric. If I try it on untailored, it still looks like a potato sack despite the armholes being high.

I suppose I'm not picturing this clearly. When you say the lining is thick, does that mean you can see the lining through the outer cloth? I don't understand why the lining would make the outer shape any more sack-like than it would be on its own.

My best fitting suit is a fully lined BF, navy pinstripe. I don't understand the problem. I don't have problems with the full linings in my other BF suits either.

I think BBBF needs pretty heavy suppression to make the look work. I only have one (or maybe two; can't remember for sure) BBBF suits, but I remember it needing a fair bit of suppression. Cotton linings feel a bit thicker (and I wish he'd use silk or bemberg or whatever, instead) but they don't affect how the jacket looks.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
