I’d say give Sundries a shot- a 60s French military inspired boxer short cut (with the operable double button) and made in Italy with canclini, getzner, etc. available in nyc

I don't think this is about practiality. If you pay attenttion to fabrics in all other parts of our outfit, it's simply nice to extend that to underwear too for some people.

Even the $5 Uniqlo boxers are soft enough. So the extent to which fabric matters in underwear should be appropriateness to the season (breathable during the summer, warmer for the winter), and durability. Then the cut, design, and features matter more

Those luxe shirting high thread count fabrics fail on just about all counts. They are tightly woven, so don't breathe well (know this from experience). Being thin, they are not great for the cold, nor do they last long
