I have an issue--the only suit fits me really well is the diffusion brand Z Zegna. The problem is, it's overpriced and of poor construction quality, not to mention most of the materials have a weird club-esque shiny look.

Can anyone recommend a better fitting suit in the 1000-1500 dollar price range that is fully canvased, has good material quality, and will fit me? (41 inch chest, 30 inch waist, 6 ft tall)

If not, can someone tell me when these crap suits go on sale? I'd pay 500 tops for it.

The guy at saks recommended the Z line when the RLBL wasn't on sale. The shoulders were still too much for me, the material didnt look as nice, and it was still expensive. The RLBL might just be a better option.

I'd like to try on a Pal Zileri and a Canali (if they even make short sizes) to see how the shoulders, arm holes, and drops look on them but as of right now RLBL is the only OTR that fits me.

I have and wear both a lot of Z Zegna and RLBL. While the BL is nice as hell, even on sale, the still cost close to 650-1000 per suit and 200 or so for pants. The Z is a lot less expensive if you get it on sale. The city line is great.

I just bought a Z Zegna for around 450 at the Saks sale, reduced from 1200. I also bought a 2BR dark plaid coat too for 1/2 the 800 price. Good deals, I think.

While every one is all about the fused this, handmade that, I like the Z Zegna more than the mainline Zegna in terms of fit. The mainline fabric and finish is to die for but I don't want to and sometimes have no place for a 2800 suit, even at half off. That said, I do own one for 'special occasions'.

While the BL suits are much, much nicer, they also are a lot more dressy, in my opinion. If you find the Z, buy it, they are made great, not up to RLBL snuff, but a good looking and modern suit that wears wonderfully. Also the Z pants rule, I have six pairs to go with the outwear and sweaters I have. I think the line is tops.

Just do some shopping and you'll find something. PM with questions.

+1. For their price point (on sale at Saks and Bloomingdales for <$500 at least twice a year), I think they are great suits if one is looking for a modern fit. As others have noted, it's not up to the quality of RLBL, E Zegna, etc. but those are at a different price point generally.

I wasn't thrilled when I saw the Z Zegna sport coat I purchased was made in Mexico, but for the price I paid on sale at Holt Renfew (Canada's Saks, Nieman's, etc.) I was satisfied. It fits me really well off the rack and I have no major complaints about it. It looks exactly like my RLPL cotton blazer, just in a different colour.
