Your Favorite Fish.

As far as aesthetics and cool fish go my favorites are the Wrasse and Goby genus.

For food I would have to say grouper or tuna steaks.

Those candirú are crazy. I have heard stories from people who have had them swim up their twig and berries.

I went fishing for the first time in about 15 years about a month ago for Snook, and a member of our part caught a 32-incher. They sent some home with me that I deep-fried in flour the next night, and it was magnificent, the juiciest, freshest fish I'd ever tasted.

Ah! I second the cutthroat. I used to catch wild ones in a stream - the wild ones in particular are beautiful, the coloration. They put up a good fight too. Everything about them, their clean, crisp habitat and their appearance is attractive.


For eating, I don't know where to begin. Mackerel is up top for me, along with salmon, tuna, halibut, and cod. I like *****, dark meat fish for grilled or sauteed style, and white fish for deep fried, English style or soups.

Oh, how could I forget cod? My family has a cabin up in Harwich, MA, and I love having cod when I'm up there. I wish I wasn't allergic to shellfish, though.

A few years back we met up with some friends hiking the PCT and joined them for a little 3 day section on the trail. One night we camped @______lake (can't remember name) somewhere around 10,000 ft. We had a couple of cheap 5 wt pack rods and caught just a ton of fish (rainbows;some goldens?). Kept 4 nicer ones for the pan, along w/ some tortellini cooked w/ instant onion soup mix and pine nuts - yum!

Being an easterner, I'll throw my hat in to the ring for the brookie (preferably spawnig male) in terms of coloration, but all trout are beautiful and live in beautiful places....
