I drive about 50 mph to the freeway, drive about 78 mph to the exit, then another 50 mph to the school, and 5-10 mph in the parking lot.

I used to enjoy a nice game of traffic chess on my way to work in my car. On 405 there is often a fun little game of who can get ahead without being dangerous. When someone comes by being a jerk we let him go by, he doesn't get to play. I really used to love this.

Now I ride my bike to work every day. I get 50 MPG, use the HOV lane (~80MPH the whole way on 405), get to skip through some nasty 520 traffic on my way home, and feel a lot safer most of the time. I do miss traffic chess though - I wouldn't feel safe trying it on a bike, and it wouldn't really be fair anyway.

That's a perfect daily driver for the daily dandy.

Aside from that, I've read that Alfa drivers are always kind of looked down upon when encountered by a Benz, BMW, or Porsche driver. Then when the light changes, those three are left behind.

Kent, it's all well and good to take your car on a race track and put your own life at risk. But if you drove past me like that on the freeway, I would call the cops and give them your license plate number so you could be arrested. This sort of behavior is inexcusable. You have absolutely no right to put other drivers at risk like this.

The good part about where I live - many of the roads are so twisty that I can test the limits of my WRX without even exceeding the 55mph speed limit, at least in the turns.

The bad part about where I live - people drive SLOW, at least half of the cars on the road like to drive around at 10-15 mph UNDER the speed limit, and they refuse to pull over and let all the people behind them by. It's really bad for my blood pressure. There are very few places to pass legally. And there are cops EVERYWHERE.

I still have fun though, within limits.

The old motoring press used to say driving fast in a slow car was a thrilling experience.

I had a lot of fun with my old 1992 Toyota Corolla. I dubbed it the Slorolla.

My 1995 Nissan was a blast to drive with a "monster" 115HP at the crank. It was lowered 3" with coilovers, and with skinny tires you could feel every bump in the road, it was like driving a go-kart. Very fun even though it was slow.

I used to have a hell of a time in high school in my 88 Honda CRX Si. Strut bar, exhaust and wheels / tires... It really is amazing how being light and nimble with "just enough" power on those curvy suburban Atlanta roads could leave 5.0s and Z28s in my rearview.

When I got my Maxima in college, I became slightly more responsible, but would still open it up on Georgia 400 (Atlanta Autobahn) heading to class. For a sedan, those Maximas handle like butter... I cannot think of a better car in its class for speed, handling, comfort, looks, reliability, etc...

Now I ride a Gazelle to work. The bicycle, not the animal. I dodge trams and map-holding tourists gazing at the leaning houses.

Bike or Car, this boy is hell on wheels. Sadly, the cost of my wheels has gone down since I joined the professional world
